My first week at the VAT office was in 1996 just before the budget. One morning, we were told to keep an eye out for the budget notices that were sent in advance. They were highly confidential and had been sent recorded delivery. They were to be handed to the boss unopened.

If he didn't try to hurt anyone (and presumably thought that what he said wasn't hurtful), that suggests that he didn't consider the feelings of the people on the receiving end.

Left Edinburgh (the first time) at 16:52 on Friday, arrived in Wolverhampton at 02:20 on Saturday. In almost 40 years of travelling by train under my own steam I'm pretty sure that's a record.

To be fair, I doubt it's a record for Network Rail or Avanti West Coast.

If there was anything to implicate Trump in the Epstein files it will have quietly disappeared years ago (likewise rich and powerful Democrats). This smacks of a confected row, although to what purpose I'm not sure.

When I was eighteen, my parents rearranged a holiday so that I wouldn't be in charge of the house for a few days. To be fair that might have been more about me than eighteen year olds in general.
