Read The Starseekers by Nicole Glover recently. There is low steam romance, murder mystery, magic, and spaceships.
Also - Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor. More robots and sci-fi than romance, but the love is there.

To this point, can any Romancelandia folks recommend a good entry-level book/author for someone coming from outside the genre?

I can't stress this enough. Being a great writer requires you being an enthusiastic reader. Read in your genre and out of it. (Yeah, even those kinds of books you swear aren't for you occassionally. You might be surprised.) Devour as much as you can.

I spend my days making them jealous of all the books I read and spending their money on books they can’t read. And then I’m marrying them and locking them in a 360 deal since they refuse to learn how to read a contract.

I’m so thankful to live a life where I predominantly interact with people that I LOVE down. It’s so peaceful and fulfilling, I have no complaints.
