A fusion of Japanese and Canadian food for my brunch. Living in Japan as a European means that you can enjoy delicious Japanese meals, but things like cheese, ham, spreads, and pickles are quite difficult to get. So while being here on workation in Montreal, I enjoy the local food 🥰 -

Japanese with Skele has several skeleton teachers dedicated to specific Japanese language teaching subjects!

Take a look at the header and tell us what Japan(ese language) related question you'd ask which skeleton if you had the chance.

So I am teaching this course that checks if you got down your grammar/vocabulary for A1 beginner Japanese. It's basically a two week course where you get a short test every day, including the solution. In case you are not quite sure yet, there's a video that explains every grammar point of that day

Particles are super important! Here's an easy to understand explanation for particle へ (h)e

Red-sensei will only keep teaching you if you have mastered all the particles! So do your best!
When/how to use particle へ (h)e

Particles are placed AFTER the word they refer to.
Particle へ is placed after a PLACE(NAME). It shows that you are moving in the direction of that place.
Pronunciation: Even though this is hiragana he, when へ is used as a particle, the H is dropped, so you say "eh"⬇️

Papyrus dancing the lion dance. Sans Gaster blaster is the lion head. Sans is the little helper carrying the piece of cloth.

Most people think it's a Halloween performance or are scared.

Papyrus is disappointed that people don't recognize a traditional lion dance when they see one.
This just happened in my neighborhood. I believe this is a lion dance, a ritual to get rid of misfortune, and to offer prayers for good health.

I like this kind of traditional Japanese music 😊

Papyrus doesn't understand why one needs to change clothing depending on the season. But after listening to the episode, he identifies with the court ladies in the Heian period who were adjusting the colours of the 12 kimono layers for each season (5 times a year).

Sans now has to make now
Today's episode is about koromogae 衣替え the seasonal change of clothing in Japan

Papyrus and Undyne are trying to recreate Japanese sweets. Alphys saw that specific one pop up in one of the anime she's been watching. Undyne pledges that she will make a perfect kurimushiyoukan. It turns out that she has no idea how to do that, so she gets help from Papyrus.
The end of the story:
It is finally done! This block of red bean paste is filled with sweet boiled chestnuts. It's called 栗蒸し羊羹 kuri-mushi-youkan.
栗 kuri chestnuts
蒸し mushi steamed
羊羮 youkan jelly style sweets

I recorded the whole process, but it will take some time for editing.

Papyrus doesn't understand the need for icebreakers.

WHY DO I NEED TO BREAK ICE? THERE WAS NEVER ICE TO BEGINN WITH. AND EVEN IF THERE WAS, MY CHARMING PERSONALITY WOULD HAVE MELTED IT ALREADY! NYEHEHE!

Sans
that's why we are living in snowdin

I KNOW, I AM JUST TOO HOT.

Sans makes a face.
heh...
Good morning, everyone! I guess for most of you, the day is about to end, while mine has just begun.

As a conversation starter, talking about the weather is a nice ice breaker. Then, you can start with what you really want to say. The same can still be said about letters and even emails.

Papyrus hears *sword* and is immediately mesmerized by this beautiful fish.

Undyne finds it a tiny bit strange that humans seem to use fish as a weapon.

Sans is like "Heh, you are a sushi to recon with!"

(Actually, he meant sashimi)

Undyne proves to him that fish are indead weapons.
What do Japanese people eat in fall? For example pacific saury, sanma. You write it with the kanji for fall 秋, sword 刀, and fish 魚.

I wonder if Fellverse skeletons with their sharp phalanges would benefit from sock protectors. They'd probably need more than one layer, though.

Also, I heard that Red Underfell likes to bite his nails. Maybe that means he doesn't need them!
Though Edge would get him some anyway, to stop the biting
In Japan, they have these sock protectors, which you put on your big toes, helping to prevent toenails from tearing holes into your precious socks. Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures. But I think I'll get some soon. My socks and I do suffer from premature hole formation 😆

Teacher Red has been working on these slides! He made them easy to understand, so that people who usually struggle with grammar will get it, too. He's such a patient guy, don't you think?
Btw, that's the emoji Japanese people use for Red 🌭 they call him マスタード mustard

I do think 魔入りました入間くん shares a liiiitle bit of what I like about Undertale. The monsters. They are (as far as I remember) afraid of humans. The school song talks about how they will devour humans, though. And Iruma is the human who somehow ends up in their world...
Chaos and fun when he tries to
I love what they did with lots of words/kanji in this anime 😆

For example 魔茶 matcha (usually it's 抹茶). Instead of 抹 they use 魔, meaning demon.

Even the name of the anime has several kanji puns 😁

Also, the anime is cute and colorful! The music is typical for this genre.
Welcome to Demon School is finally coming back.

Instead of itadakimasu, Sans would say: いただくぞ、パピルス! itadakuzo, papirusu! when his brother offers him spaghetti.
That's a more colloquial way, especially for guys.

And when he finishes the dish, he's gonna say: ごちそうさん gochisousan. He uses 'san' instead of the more polite さま sama.

Don't be like Alex. Get a real teacher who tells you what you really need to know as a beginner and how you should learn. I know Manu-sensei can do the job.

(Or ask Stretch - he's my fav.)
That's Alex. He's learning Japanese. But so far, he only knows words like baka, omae, shine, konnichiwa and watashi.

I think skeletons only take steambaths anyway 蒸し風呂 (mushi-buro). 蒸(む)す musu means "to steam"
Have you ever wondered why there's the kanji for wind 風 (かぜ, Japanese pronunciation) kaze in bath お風呂(ふろ)o-furo?

Watch this video, and you will finally get the answer!

I am pretty sure cat meat balls would work on skeletons! Edge having Doomfanger on his lap, absentmindedly fondling his paws while calming down after a long day of guard duty.

I also think Sans would love it if he had a kitty.

Anybody gonna draw me a cat petting Sans?
I present you some 肉球(にくきゅう niku-kyuu) meatballs XD it's the Japanese word for cute paws of cats and dogs.

I recently started watching an anime where the cat offers their 肉球 to make their owner 飼(か)い主(ぬ)し kai-nushi feel better 😁

Did you know that the skeleton monster who teaches Japanese grammar at Japanese with Skele is Red?

Don't make him angry by not understanding the difference between the particles は (wa) and が (ga). Take one of his lessons or (better) get the book Reading Japanese for Beginners 😇

I wonder what kind of customs monsters have when someone they were close with dusted.
We have an unfortunate death in the family. The funeral 葬式(そうしき) is this weekend. It's my first funeral in Japan, so I had to get suitable clothes. There's a special section for 喪服(もふく) mourning clothes in apparel stores. Also, people wear pearl 真珠(しんじゅ) jewelry to represent their tears.
