I could use a little boost today & was hoping for a poem to be accepted somewhere. But a "no" from @therumpus.net also works when @roxanegay.bsky.social says "we fell in love with your voice." 😭

Did you know about the Bald Cypress? I did not & was so shocked when I came upon this magnificent tree bc it’s got needles but also turns colors! It’s a deciduous conifer! It’s a hybrid-genre tree! Like the larch. It gets its cool name bc it goes bald in winter, dropping its needles.

Trump just won’t release it.

This story (and its many counterparts) make me want to beg forgiveness from the people ICE and DHS are taking away from their homes--and the people that they're leaving bereft. And it makes me want to scream.
A Naperville man was hauled away by federal immigration agents Thursday morning as his two sons watched, the older boy begging them not to hurt his father and tearfully asking for a chance to speak to him before they left.
As his two sons watch and cry, ‘Pa, te amo,’ federal agents arrest man outside of Naperville apartments

I could not have written this poem were it not for my students in the Calvin Prison Initiative. For them, I am immeasurably grateful.

Wow
It broke my heart to write this poem, and I would give it back if I could reverse my brother's death or my mom's diagnosis. But it doesn't work like that. So I'm trying to open my hands to the joy of having a poem in @thenation.com. Thank you, Kaveh Akbar, et al.

Some poems mend your heart by breaking your heart. I don't know how else to say it.
"her memory is a cloud she can't hold..."
Lots of feels with this poem for my mum. Sent with love for anyone with a parent or loved one with Alzheimer's/dementia. It's a journey.
(And thank you @poetsorg.bsky.social and Rick Barot for sharing this one. It means a lot.)
