A deadly shooting at the CDC shook its scientists. Now they want answers from RFK Jr.
CDC Director Susan Monarez convened an online all-hands meeting of the agency division that focuses on vaccines, and employees called out Kennedy’s rhetoric specifically.

Language oppression is all about control. Welsh Nots a classic example,(from FB). I can't help but think of te reo Māori and the cr*p going on here. Re-Anglicising signs, govt dept names, passports. What a waste of $ trying to remove our bilingual heritage #nzpol #nz #cymru #language #tereoMāori

I have had a several colleagues tell me about malware embedded in generative AI links their students put in essay bibliographies. Do not fuck around with this. Educate yourself about these technologies before signing away all tasks to them.
NEW: In a likely first, security researchers have shown how generative AI agents can be hijacked to cause physical consequences.

They tricked Google's Gemini AI into turning off smart home lights, opening windows, and turning on a boiler.

They hid instructions to the AI in a *calendar invitation*

I've seen this on Bluesky and had to try it myself. The image below was the response to the prompt: "Show me a diagram of the US presidents since Herbert Hoover, with their names and years in office under their photos" Bravo, OpenAI, bravo.

It always amazes me just how generous NZers are, even in the toughest of economic times. We are a nation of volunteers, connected into our communities, doing our bit for each other.

Don't wait til a funeral to tell s/one how they were a +ve role model, or an amazing boss, or a great Dad, or a trusted friend and confidante, or a kind-hearted person, or a friendly face. Been to a funeral today of a friend who died way too early. Life's short. Live well. Hug the ones you love.

Libraries and librarians rock!
Keep real history alive. If you’re a library at risk of having books confiscated or removed, pick a library in Canada, send them there with a note to keep for you, and they’ll do it no questions asked. Any library, any town, any city. Send them all here. Well keep them safe.

Seeing posts of travellers trying to drive NZ in 7 days. People need to take a look at the map and note the need to catch a ferry too. It's a small population but a spread out country!

Mayor Brandon Scott has reduced crime in Baltimore by 62%, and now has the lowest homicide rate in Baltimore history.

How did he do it?

NOT be spending more on police. He did it by MAJOR investment in afterschool and literacy programs.

Wonder how many who spoke up at Woodstock or previous Glastonbury events would've been banned today? Music, musicians and songwriters have always been outlets for political commentary.

They reflect the voices of the people.

Which means either:

1) The bombings did only superficial damage to the sites.
2) The sites had already been evacuated of fissile material.

In either case, the attacks failed, at most delaying Iran's ability to finish a bomb while guaranteeing their resolve to do so.
