Supporters of the House of Lords should tell us why Lord Mandelson, Baroness Mone, Lord Houchen, Lord Lebedev and Baroness Owen deserve to be unelected lawmakers for the rest of their lives

#BBCR4 #Epstein The #SarahFerguson, #Andrew and #Norwegian #CrownPrincessMette-Marit revelations remind us how awful #Royalty can be and how unnecessary it is. Hopefully, this scandal will be the catalyst to sweep it all away, everywhere.

Starmer has serious questions to answer about what his government knew, and when, about Mandelson's Epstein ties. Shocking that this man was made ambassador - he should have no role in public life. And we absolutely need a police enquiry into leaks.

Ed Davey is surely right that Parliament could deal with Mandelson quickly.

Which might be a breath of fresh air and a bit of oomph leading to something more general.

Scrapping the two-child benefit cap is long overdue and welcome.

But while Labour dragged its feet and Reform want to turn the clock back, the overall benefit cap is still in place and still traps families in poverty. It’s time to scrap it.

Tactical voting in Gorton & Denton means voting Green to stop Reform, not Labour. It’s between the Greens and the fascists.

Reform 39
Greens 34
Labour 21

But it is more than that. The Greens offer positive policies and hope for the future. Labour & Reform just more of the same-old-same-old.

Nothing is guaranteed, that's why Green Party activists are on the ground in Gorton and Denton in huge numbers, going door to door and speaking to voters - and all without the massive donations from questionable sources that some other parties rely on!

I really hope the Greens draw a lot of attention to this. Stogia, Labour's candidate in the Gorton and Denton by-election, is a backdoor privatisation candidate who's clearly favoured by Labour to further their agenda of increasingly hollowing out the public sector
Angeliki Stogia's role at Arup. Arup are a global construction advisory firm that donated £33k to minister Darren Jones in the form of a secondee to work in his office.

#WATO #R4Today areally worth reading the whole thread, as a former civil servan I remember been gobsmacked that someone a 'Lord' was made Secretary of State. But apparently it was much worse than that.
1. In 2009 I wrote this. I argued that Peter Mandelson's department “functions as a fifth column within government, working for corporations to undermine democracy and the public interest.”
This thread explains what I saw, and reaches a startling conclusion.🧵

All this Epstein stuff just shows how the rich and powerful think their entitlement trumps everything. It is also a lesson in how elites use networks to advance their agendas regardless of the wrongs and rights.
