Over the last few days, I've spent more time here than on the other site (and that's mostly to follow tv live tweeting). Thrilled to see so many here now. ❤️

I'm a paranormal romance author and writing mentor, but due to health issues, I lurk-read but haven't posted much anywhere lately. 👋 Hi!
Poor guy! I hope he recovers soon. ❤️

Our dog had these huge incisions for her 3 cysts, but she's a poodle, so you'd never know it after the first night. 🙄 Poodles are like a completely different species. 😆

New writers often get frustrated when agents or editors can't define "voice" sufficiently for them to understand. Voice is very "you know it when you see it" and seeing it often comes from having seen so much that you know when something feels distinct.

LLMs produce the opposite of voice by design.

Yep, like @scalzi.com says, I was that teenage SF reader--all Asimov and Heinlein--and when the misogyny clicked into place in my brain, I dropped the genre for *decades*.

Oh no, I'm so sorry that he had to go through this, but I'm glad the surgery went well.

Ours had 3 cysts (but no tumors) removed just before Thanksgiving, and the incisions were SO BIG. They really were horrifying, like a Franken-dog. *gentle hugs* to you both.

That "Expanse prequel" is often how I've described the show to others. 😆

I really liked the way he "primed" the conversation by having them read about the de-skilling issue too. That's something that far too many AI advocates ignore.

Really interesting thread 🧵 on how a class structured their AI policies when given rein to make informed choices.
Last term I tried an experiment: I walked into my Tech and Design Ethics class, admitted that I had *no idea* what to do about ChatGPT - so I would let them figure it out.

As in: their first project was to decide and write the ChatGPT policy for the class.

Here's what happened:

Reviews.

Reviews are free AND they are a gift to authors that can keep on giving (i.e., exposure, marketing, algo boosts, etc.)

Please, give the gift of reviews to your authors this holiday season. It really can make a difference!

Oh yeah, there were some years when the cookie marathon was a real struggle, but luckily this is one of our big family traditions, so I have help. ❤️

Merry Christmas! I know this can be a difficult time for many, so I hope everyone has the best day they can. ❤️🎄🎁

Here, have a virtual cookie! (We have a marathon baking session every year, and this year we made about 875 cookies. 😁)

Oh absolutely! You have way too much stuff going on, especially for this time of year. I wish for all the universe to give you and your family a break and some good stuff! ❤️

I hope the vet has calming news for you.

Our dog, a poodle, is susceptible to harmless cysts, which nevertheless manage to scare us every time they bleed. But they *are* harmless and painless, and I hope you get an easy explanation like that too.

You're holding together the best you can, and that's enough. *hugs*

And honestly, many others would be falling apart far more. You're doing amazing!

Ugh. Yes, I hate that "am I actually sick? Or just stressed that I'm sick?" question. I hope you're all in the clear soon! *hugs*
December 21, 2025 at 9:11 AM
What an absolutely stressful situation. I'm so sorry!
December 20, 2025 at 11:16 AM
Congrats! I love a new book from you, and I very much appreciate you pushing through all your pain issues to share this! ❤️

And here's hoping your appt confirming the shoulder issues leads to solutions for you. *hugs*

Can great storytelling save a story with imperfect craft? If so, how can we improve those skills?

Given how hard it is to define "good storytelling," how can we improve our skills?

Everyone talks about improving our writing craft skills but what about our *storytelling* skills? Are we just stuck with our level of "talent", or can we improve those skills too?

Ooh, interesting! I'd just about gotten over my hot flashes when I got Covid. The hot flashes came back with a vengeance and never went away until I started HRT 3 years later.

I definitely think Covid messes with this stuff!

Ugh. I've been there with thinking an induced coma sounded appealing, and I didn't have even half your issues. I'm so sorry you're going through all this! *hugs*

I know it's really bad of me, but this crap is just pushing me further into my "ignore all email in my inbox" ADHD issue. My inbox is such a doom pile, and this crap just gives my brain even more justification that it's not worth it to wade into. 🤷‍♀️
