i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

Well, he did not call me, personally, corrupt, but I did enjoy the opportunity to talk to Drew Lindsay/ @chronphilanthropy.bsky.social about the challenges of nonprofit work in this moment.
What do you do when the president calls you "corrupt?"

The Trump White House rhetorical attacks on nonprofits are unprecedented — presidents typical extol charitable groups. Groups worry the verbal barrage could dampen giving and erode trust in the sector.

A good reminder to folks not to overlook local university food pantries when donating. I give to mine monthly.
New York City folks - suggestions for college kids who may need food assistance? My students often identify food insecurity as the most pressing issue on campus. NYU has limited food pantries and meal swipes, but these are already insufficient and that is before the impending benefits losses.

Last week, the Indiana University administration asked their student newspaper not to print any news stories in the Homecoming edition. When the faculty advisor refused, IU fired him and ended paper printing. So students at the Purdue paper printed the IU edition and drove it down to Bloomington!

The special edition blasted across town features columns from IDS and Exponent editors, alongside QR codes to support both student papers.

Public health is infrastructure. And every $1 spent on prevention saves up to $5.60 in health costs. So why does Indiana underfund it? We need budgets that reflect care, not crisis.

NJ transit police are scanning tickets on the Princeton Junction platform (train not even here to board yet). Anyone know about this? Is it new? Why?

@gbosslet.bsky.social this while thread is interesting but shout out to Hi-chews
Some things I've learned in my first few weeks:

1) There is a grey market candy swapping racket between janitors, TSA agents, CSRs, and everyone else who has to stand someplace all day at the airport.

Hi-chews, sour candies, and gummy anything are in highest demand.

Next week's politics of public policy theme: Growth of Government/Large Scale Democracy

Me in August: Sure, let's talk about redistricting here. The 2022 CQ Researcher case is a good resource.

Me today: Frantically timestamping links, wondering if I can just throw this up for the slide: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

People think they’re taking down a rich intellectual sinecure but they’re mostly terrorizing committed public servants who make $58,000 a year after 15 years of experience at a school that has to budget creatively so students can access textbooks.
This new column by @tressiemcphd.bsky.social makes me think about when I recently had to talk to the police for yet another safety plan, I tried to “lighten” the mood by saying that we all knew this wasn’t my first rodeo. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/01/o...

A great episode for Hoosiers, but also for anyone looking for some perspective on challenges of federalism/what doing public health looks like in a red state.

Also a good reminder to blue state me. I just got my vaccines w/o issue. CVS asking anyone coming for their meds if they want shots too
Tune into our latest Hoosier Health Matters BONUS episode, where we break down everything you need to know about who can get vaccinated this season, who should be, and we try to discern why HHS did it this way.

This is good questioning but we would not be in this position if Cassidy had simply held the line at Kennedy's confirmation. It's unclear how much of this antagonism is real and how much is for show, and for that, Cassidy has no one to blame but himself.
SEN. CASSIDY (R) : “Do you agree Trump deserves the Nobel Prize for Operation Warp speed?”

RFK JR.: “Absolutely.”

SEN. CASSIDY: “But you just told Senator Bennet the COVID vaccine killed more people than COVID.”

RFK JR.: “….”😬 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ignoring the power and problems of privilege is precisely what got us into this mess.
It would be a huge step forward for Democrats and for general clarity in political writing if these terms went away. These came mostly from academic hothouses.

New Jersey DMV requiring paper statements as proof of address while banks/credit card companies really push paperless is a truly winning combination....and that's if you can even get an appointment in the first place. #administrativeburden

The Hoosier Health Matters podcast from @goodtroubleindiana.org does discusses this in a recent episode. At about the 14:20 mark they cover Hoosiers getting kicked off Medicaid, but also the immediate effect on local hospitals/impact on care for all

Had a mostly good time at the game today but Fifa and Met Life need to reevaluate their vendor policies. No water easily available (even to buy) at/after the 72nd minute was problematic (to say the least).
