Soft launching a new conspiracy theory that PG&E's outages have all secretly been on purpose, because their execs read too much Yudkowsky.
Yeesh, much earlier and bigger than the scope of the upcoming planned outage:

TIL that 125k people out of 825k people is 2.2%, not the 15% that I mistakenly had believed. Thank you, PG&E.

We did a deep dive into aortic stenosis genetics, and took first steps to understand the genetics behind normal human variation in flow across the aortic valve.
We’re excited to share our new Nature Genetics paper examining the genetic architecture of aortic valve function and aortic stenosis. We used deep learning of cardiac MRI and MTAG to study disease biology long before clinical diagnosis.

Please also check out the excellent AS GWAS from @broadinstitute.org friends and colleagues @aeronsmall.bsky.social and @pnatarajanmd.bsky.social, published concurrently in Nature Genetics. Their work provides impressive insights into the genetic architecture of AS

Genomic and transcriptomic analyses of aortic stenosis enhance therapeutic target discovery and disease prediction - Nature Genetics
Multi-ancestry genome-wide and transcriptome-wide association studies of aortic stenosis identify more than 200 independent risk loci and provide insights into its genetic architecture.

We explore a bunch of alternative models in the paper, but our main conclusion is that nearly all recessive genes have small (quantitative) effects in heterozygotes, and this is actually the main target of selection.

Every single academic who has preprinted anything in the past year got this email from UChicago. I was so skeptical that I actually contacted the University of Chicago IRB, which indeed confirmed that they had (to paraphrase) approved spamming every academic.
1/2 I was asked to review an AI summary of a paper I'd published. It was part of a research project into the application of AI to research. The summary was not particularly good summary of the introduction and abstract. I was then asked to review 5 hypotheses generated by AI.
