🧊 Arctic sea ice slowdown?

Ice hasn’t shrunk much since 2005 — but it’s still half the 1980s size. This pause is natural variation, not recovery. The Arctic is warming 4x faster than the global avg.

📉 Loss could soon accelerate fast.

Maybe this @johncullenocean.bsky.social et al. piece where they said — "adding iron to the ocean is not an effective way to fight climate change, and we don't need further research to establish that" — wasn't straightforward enough because this idea just won't die. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Why Spring Is Critical for Harp Seal Pups ❄️

Harp seal pups are weaned just 10-12 days after birth. By spring, they must adapt fast as sea ice melts. As the Arctic warms, ice breaks up earlier, threatening pup survival and disrupting the marine food web.

Finally on my way home from Lord Howe Island (albeit slightly delayed). It was a pretty difficult year. Lots of birds with lots of plastic - more than I think we've ever seen.

We keep saying "SURELY it can't get much worse" and then somehow it does.

For decades, this iconic graph has provided clear observational evidence of one of the key indicators of global climate change - Arctic sea ice loss. It’s from the NSIDC "Sea Ice Index"

Now, support of this crucial data is at risk. A visual lens to our changing poles (zacklabe.com/arctic-sea-i...).
