If you go searching for the childhood homes of many other Black artists and activists of the twentieth century—W.E.B. Du Bois, Rosa Parks, Malcolm X—you’ll find only a placard on a street corner. That Simone’s home has survived time and gentrification feels close to a miracle.

How a group of artists came together to save and restore the tiny three-room, 660-square-foot house in Tryon that Nina Simone grew up in.

As of the latest data available, North Carolina's six FAA-staffed air towers had just 178 certified air traffic controllers.

Combined, that's 57 air traffic controllers short of meeting an industry agreed-upon standard.

At a conference with a bunch of higher ed leaders and board members, and it’s funny—so many folks use presentation sessions as time to quietly, eagerly plow through email and messages. Sometimes it’s nice to catch up. Probably a quarter of people here are all-in on their phones.
