Interesting for both it’s historical account of US conduct in Vietnam and Afghanistan, and for it articulating a US way of war that is uninterested in signalling any adherence or deference to notions of just war.

This begs the question of why we have collectively chosen to make this such a difficult phenomena to explain.

Why are the marketing narratives of new (US) military contractors finding their way into the government speeches? Do they offer to write them? The trope of 'peace through strength' for the UK? A defence dividend? ... All of it seems so detached from the realities of war, possibly even politics.

At the moment I have: militarisation, militarism, martial politics, military social harm, war preparedness, everyday modalities of war.
