While I'm still a registered Dem, it's not by choice. Between my state/the Dems who voted for Federal BS, I can't make any changes to my registration. If I do I'm subject to the new laws, so that now I have to show all marraiges/divorces back to my maiden name that I can't even utter due to CPTSD.
