One plan is to relocate some or all to the unoccupied Nu'utele Island after pigs and Pacific rats have been eradicated. We are almost there
Rare pigeon rediscovered... The world's largest avian extinction event has occurred in the Pacific due to introduced predators. With mammal control, there is still hope for the manumea but it needs to start right now www.independent.co.uk/news/science....
Dodo’s closest living relative spotted in remote South Pacific rainforest
Manumea’s first sighting since 2013 raises hope critically endangered species can be saved from extinction

Just back from 10 days in Melbourne and Sydney visiting family. Better pay and conditions, cheaper food. Indigenous art & culture finally coming out of the shadows. But scary CC impacts eg temperature, fire, water shortages. Drug and mental health issues. Meth seems a global issue

Worldwide mortality experience since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2024) shows excess deaths over that period in almost every country measured. Australia (+6%) was below average, and New Zealand (+0.1%) the lowest we measured.

Phil knows
Remember mycoplasma bovis?

We need a strong, funded response now like the Ardern government made after the previous National-led government pissed around instead.

Not relying on volunteers.
NZ now has a narrow window to stop the Asian yellow-legged hornet – here’s how everyone can help
Unless New Zealand rapidly scales up its search effort, we could soon be confronting an incursion far tougher and costlier to stamp out.

Fights over regional council assets can be avoided by every council in a region opting for a unitary council. Would also minimise risk of Central Govt stealing the assets
