28 YEARS LATER: THE BONE TEMPLE solidifies the abstract aspects of its predecessor into a tale of how hope stays alive even in wicked ways... equal parts horrifying and emotionally impacting, it's an excellent sequel.

In “The Valley In Thaw,” a long-dormant robot awakens to witness the seasonal rebirth of a valley and the fragile persistence of lives, human and otherwise, that occupy it.

Read the final story from our Winter Issue, written by @epbirdsall.bsky.social and illustrated by Xiang Yata, out now!

MY NEIGHBOR ADOLF is a curious film mingling irony, occasional humor, and empathy to compose a Hasidic parable about healing old wounds and finding hope again after the darkest times.

OBEX is a quirky Lynchian look at loneliness that involves an individual's surreal sojourn into a video game... anyone interested in Eraserhead meets Legend of Zelda may enjoy, though the movie is more about the infinite potential for imagination to feed isolation.

Although I hoped to finish another album before year's end, I only got three tracks done... still, no reason not to put out "Lost at Sea" first single off the upcoming album "The Wreck of Hope"... song inspired by too many hours playing the video game Dredge.

WE BURY THE DEAD may seem on paper a cliché driven zombie adventure...but this movie manages to offer a compelling thriller fueled by several moments that shift the perception of events in ways that make things vastly more unsettling & tragic. #filmreview #horror

ANACONDA is slithering into theaters... this meta-reboot of a '97 cult classic does the bare minimum to squeeze a few truly satisfying laughs out of a concept that's fun at least once.

"Let the Kids Drown" is a song I'm the most proud of... it came together over time and in a certain way, without intention... that's to say what I thought the song might be isn't what it became... it's an example of letting go to let the art become it's own story.

My latest retrospective looks at GET CARTER... how a 1971 cult classic inevitably resulted in a bad remake because remakes are in Hollywood's DNA.

filmobsessive.com/film/film-fe...
Get Carter a Classic Remake Mistake
Get Carter reenvisioned noir in 1971, but the cult classic eventually became as much a lesson in neo-noir as a cautionary tale about remakes.

My latest review at Film Obsessive looks at THE THING WITH FEATHERS, an adaptation of a prose-poetry book that tries to capture a vibe it falls just short of emulating... the style is there, but the substance is lacking.

RENTAL FAMILY is a quiet comedy-drama about the need for connection in an increasingly atomised society, propelled by a remarkably subtle performance from Brendan Fraser... it may overreach a bit, but squeezes the heart in a way that can be refreshing. #filmreview
