On September 7, 2025, a total lunar eclipse colored the Moon red as it rose above the medieval Acquafredda Castle in Sardinia, Italy. Built in the 13th century, the fortress is believed to have been commissioned by Count Ugolino della Gherardesca, later mentioned in Dante’s Divine Comedy.

At Cala Domestica, Sardinia, the interplay of limestone cliffs and lichens forms a landscape where geological history meets vibrant biological life. Under ultraviolet light, orange lichens such as Xanthoria parietina emit a mesmerizing reddish-pink fluorescence.

The Milky Way reflected on the waters of Pixinni Tower, Sardinia, my first Milky Way photo of 2025. At this time it rises around 2am, offering still clear skies before dawn. I had the opportunity to test the new Sony 16mm f/1.8 G and was impressed by its performance.

Milky Way as seen from the 14,150 ft. summit of #MountSneffels in the #SanJuanMountains of #Colorado. The clouds are illuminated by the lights of Telluride; the horizon glow is from Durango. I've hiked up Sneffels twice before via moonlight; this was my first time via starlight and headlamp!
