Walking through a grove of golden quaking #aspens is one of nature's most beautiful experiences, like entering a natural cathedral with sacred light. See my gallery of #Colorado #fallcolors photos here: www.mountainphotography.com/gallery/autu...

Congrats and wonderful photo, @kennymuir.bsky.social, with its stark, high-contrast b&w foreground tree against the softer, mystical background. That splash of light ties it all together!
I’m excited to have come first place in the Woodlands category in the @natural-landscapes.bsky.social awards with this photo ‘Remnant of time’.
It was taken on an exceptionally cold morning with a thick frost encrusting the Caledonian forest. Congrats to other winners, organisers and judges. #nlpa

In early September we had to retreat unexpectedly from a backpack trip in the #WindRiverRange of #Wyoming due to #wildfire smoke from the nearby #DollarLakeFire.

Here's another batch of photos from a two-week trek through the #Écrins National Park in the French #Alps last month. These are some of the most idyllic mountains I've ever visited!

This July we did a two-week trek ( #GR54 ) around the Parc National des #Écrins in the French Alps, staying in alpine huts and villages along the way. This was our longest trek yet in the #Alps; check out the full trip report here:

In early June the aspen forests on the flanks of La Sal Mountains above #Moab, #Utah are bursting with greenery, wildflowers, and birdsong.

This is the time of year I start thinking about camping on top of mountains! May and June can offer windows of opportunity between the avalanche danger of winter and lightning danger of summer. Here's a couple epic high camps in the #moonlight above 13,000 ft. in the #SanJuanMountains, #Colorado.

Love the colors and light in this photo by Martin Podt.
Golden morning light streaming through the forest. Moments like these make you slow down and just breathe. Nature always knows how to heal.

Last week we hiked the wonderful 38-mile #TransCatalinaTrail across #CatalinaIsland, off the coast of southern #California. We did this 12 years ago, but this time was even more beautiful and memorable. Check out my photos and journal from the trek here: www.mountainphotography.com/gallery/tran...

Glorious sunrise light and rugged volcanic peaks high above the Sonoran Desert in western #Arizona. The haze was from a wildfire near #Yuma but made for a lovely atmosphere in the morning light.

Looking forward to doing this again soon! Here's some pics from the wonderful 45-mile #TransCatalinaTrail on #CatalinaIsland in #California, from 12 years ago. I wonder if it has changed much since then? See more pics and my original trip report here: www.mountainphotography.com/gallery/tran...

Whenever I'm in the lights and bustle of Las Vegas I usually catch myself gazing towards the mountains in the distance, wishing I was out there instead. It took me years to realize #LasVegas #Nevada is actually a great base for outdoors lovers. Here's a beautiful sunrise at #RedRockCanyon.

Stoked to see John Scurlock here on Bluesky. A modern day Bradford Washburn!
Mount Robson’s north face, sunlit here, has been skied twice. It’s one of the so-called Fifty Classic Ski Descents Of North America, arguably singular in its difficulty. Robson’s amazing Emperor Face is seen also, at right, partly shaded. #photography #canadianrockies #mountains #aerialphotography

There are many wild, rugged, and seldom-visited mountain ranges in the #Mojave Desert, making it a prime area for exploratory missions. Here's a small collection of photos from a memorable 3-week trip in March 2019. See the whole trip report here: www.mountainphotography.com/gallery/moja...

The best kind of weather...
My entry for this week's comps is a shot of some ethereal light as the mountains & trees started to appear out of the lifting mist, early one morning last week.
