I gave an interview to Nada & Novosti about my research on Yugoslav department stores. You can't fully see it, but the photos were taken in front of the (now privatized and abandoned) department store Pula, built in 1978. Check it out here: www.portalnovosti.com/ivana-mihael...
The new issue of Aspasia is out! I contributed only with a short book review, but it's always a cozy feeling to see one's text surrounded by so many great articles and authors.

i hate that AI has now caused me to question the authenticity of cute animal videos online, which is my primary use of social media. i don't even know if this baby penguin actually wore a beret to go buy a tiny baguette in paris

Israel destroyed a Palestinian seed bank today. This is such a specific kind of evil, targeting literal hope for the future. Attempting to further alienate Palestinians from their home and land. So much destroyed just for the sake of destroying. It's awful.

If you wondered why the EU is ignoring protests in #Serbia, look no further.
The EU (ofc in agreement with Serbia's corrupt regime, how else) has declared the Jadar mining project strategic.
This is bound to devastate an entire region, in the name of "green transition," which is anything but.

In so far as it's a sign, it's a sign that elite academics enjoy mobility that 99% of their colleagues do not, given the absurdities of the academic labor market. If you wanted the "direst sign of bad things to come," that was probably when Mahmoud Khalil got detained.
I just found out today that both Jason Stanley and Timothy Snyder have left Yale to move to Canada.
If you know who they are, then you know it’s likely the direst sign of bad things to come.
