One thing I've learned over the past few weeks, and it's been a bit of a sobering lesson, is that a lot of Americans I know don't actually know what's going on between the US and Canada right now, and just how seriously Canadians are taking this.

(Seriously, though, the fact that I am perfectly willing to ask a smoker to move downwind of a door because I don't want to inhale carcinogens apparently make me a huge bitch lol)

But at the same time I don't get the point of silent treatment or sulking at someone or whatever when you could just... talk about it? Like adults? 😆

Oh it totally is.

I'm usually thought of as rude and pushy because I will speak up instead of passive aggressively hinting at what's bugging me lol. I spent my early childhood in Germany and, while I'm not nearly so blunt as a German, by Canadian standards I'm borderline rude.

(As a Canadian, I know multiple people who still hold deep grudges over things that happened in high school all the way into middle age, as an example. But generally mild annoyances don't get under the skin.)

Yeah, my impression of Australians feelings are deep & quick.

Canadians have emotional inertia. For good and ill. Arguments are less likely to break out into shouting matches, but I bet every small town here has at least one major inter-family feud going back 3+ generations.

To use a sports metaphor, Trump just did the international relations equivalent of repeatedly roughing our team's goalie unprovoked then saying we should play for his team.

Canadians have dropped our gloves in response, and once they're off, they don't go back on until the fight is over.

Culturally, in Canada it's considered a virtue to be slow to anger.

But it's also cultually
expected to go scorched Earth when someone does something far enough beyond the pale to earn our anger. We have a vindictive streak as anyone who watches hockey or Lacrosse should be able to tell.

Supporting Canadian should also extend to the media we consume.

Postmedia is majority owned by a Republican-connected US hedge fund thanks to legislation the Conservatives pushed through AFTER they lost in 2015. It was a Republican takeover of Canadian media.

The convoy morons are split between 1, trying to get folks to believe that Buy Canadian is the same as wearing masks because something something TOTALITARIANISM! SHEEPLE! etc. And 2, trying to convince people it's all simultaneously a fake news government psyop and Trudeau's fault.

I've seen a few "actually, a lot of dems are really good at the internet, they just aren't getting attention" please give me non-AOC, non-Bernie examples so that I can educate myself.

I will say though, being good at the internet MEANS GETTING ATTENTION.

Very heartening to see foreign officials mocking him for being a fucking clown. Feels like the garlic to his vampire
BREAKING NEWS: Canadian Premier Wab Kinew of Manitoba MOCKS Trump by signing a “beautiful” order that officially removes ALL American liquor from Canadian stores in his province.

Donald Trump just caused massive economic damage to our country. How sad and embarrassing.
