bit inchoate but there's is a very popular online type of "fun" which is the same as when a group of children decide to bully another child by declaring by fiat some arbitrary, obviously non-true thing, it's an exercise in establishing the power of the group to form consensus by nothing but fiat

TARAN WANDERER by Lloyd Alexander had a HUGE impact on me as a kid. A joyfully democratic instead of a monarchic vision of high fantasy - and life. Tremendously grateful to have read it when I did.

I think there should be a global federation but every country gets five senators and they can filibuster but have to actually be talking through, no fakebusters like the us

Maybe my numbers are just way off, but the promised wave of popular Narrative Story podcasts never really turned out right? OTOH rpg-playing podcasts did take off. Whose to say why - do people like having the added layer of performance in between, in the open?

Huh has anybody has written a proper sequel to Frankenstein? There's LeagueofExtraordinaryGentlemen type slop, but nobody trying to write a Gothic novel sequel?

Basically since the 2008 GFC I've half assumed there was going to be a repeat with a rise in racism and fascism and a world-war. There really never was any more motivation behind that than the symmetry of economic crashes. Anyway it's been 17 year since that and no WW3 so egg on my face I guess

I think "impedance mismatch" is a useful term for thinking about stuff like this. it's not bad to have stuff be unexplained or bad to explain stuff, it's bad when the level of explaining you are doing does not correspond to the rules of the story

The lib brained sitcom that secretly has Good Politics sort of for my money is Superstore. Good example of form following function: the writers were not more radical than those of say, Brooklyn Nine Nine, but if your protagonists are service workers than their concerns become your concerns.
