Recovering Hill Staffer. Current EFF Director of Federal Affairs. Vanderbilt University alumna. All opinions are my own, etc etc etc.
Just wanted to say this a little louder before I go to bed tonight - there's a lot EFF can do to represent internet users, but when people take the time to also speak for themselves, our message hits a little differently. Keep sending those emails!
We are thankful for every person who picked up their phones, went to a government meeting, or sent an email to speak up for what they believe. Your voices help us all!

Periodic reminder - if Congress is about to vote on a bill, and you have an opinion about that bill, you should tell your elected peeps directly. Most of us have 3 (sorry, DC), and they don’t coordinate, so you have to tell all 3 yourself.

Call this, and ask to be connected:

Shameless self promotion: Right now in a minute, I’m speaking on Section 230’s misunderstood legacy at #FutureOfSpeech 2025, hosted by @cdt.org & @StandTogether.

I'm newly back from sabbatical, so I'm rested and extra feisty. Join us!

Caveat: I’m on sabbatical for a bit, so I’m not in the weeds at all on the current political situation. However, when one party has unified control of DC, it is absolutely bonkers to blame a shutdown on the minority.

wow it's too bad no one at the ftc ever has done work around algorithmic discrimination in pricing. if only a person (or two??) there had been ready for this future
“By the end of the year, Delta plans for 20% of its ticket prices to be individually determined using AI, president Glen Hauenstein told investors last week.”

“Over time, the goal is to do away with static pricing altogether…”
Delta moves toward eliminating set prices in favor of AI that determines how much you personally will pay for a ticket
The airline touted a partnership with an AI-enabled revenue system as a step on the road to fully personalized ticket pricing, part of its goal to raise profit margins long-term.

Congress is bringing back the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA). It doesn’t protect kids—it gives government officials power to pressure platforms to take down lawful speech.
The Kids Online Safety Act Will Make the Internet Worse for Everyone
The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) is back in the Senate. Sponsors are claiming—again—that the latest version won’t censor online content. It isn’t true. This bill still sets up a censorship regime dis...

Unnecessary hills I will absolutely die on - sticking "gate" on the end of something does not mean "scandal related to the thing."

Watergate was the name of the hotel where President Nixon did illegal things. It was not a scandal related to water in any way.

This is a great piece that does a great job looking at what the Take It Down Act would do in the current climate. TL; dr - now, more than ever, it's important to know what the bill CAN do, not what the sponsors say it SHOULD do: www.theverge.com/policy/62497...

Louder for the folks in the back - stop pushing for censorship!
Now seems like a good time to remind people that Senators Klobuchar & Lujan proposed a law to make "health misinfo" illegal. And it would be misinfo as determined by *the head of HHS*. And now RFK Jr. is going to lead that agency.

Dear Senators Klobuchar & Lujan: Now Do You See Why Letting HHS Censor “Misinformation” Is A Terrible Idea?
You have likely heard that Donald Trump has nominated conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to be his next Secretary of Health and Human Services. This is dangerous and cruel for a very long li…
