‘Great lords, wise men ne'er sit and wail their loss,
But cheerly seek how to redress their harms.
What though the mast be now blown overboard,
The cable broke, the holding-anchor lost,
And half our sailors swallow'd in the flood?
Yet lives our pilot still.’

Maiden Castle circular for today’s dog walk. (Yes, there is a Maiden Castle prehistoric settlement in Durham; the Dorset one isn’t the only one). The autumn colours are glorious, but one strong winter gale will see them off. So pop out if you can and enjoy them while they last! #Durham 😊

Good afternoon, Bluesky! This one tried to hide from me. I heard them calling out, but it took me a minute to locate them. It’s incredible how quietly they fly. Sometimes we just have to take what we get.

Obama: When I think back to a year ago, I remember talking to some people, who would say, this election doesn't matter all that much. That however the next president ended up being, it wasn't going to matter to them. If nothing else, the last nine months should have cured us of that idea.

The statement ‘black lives matter’, not the organisation, has never been demonstrated as more necessary than with what’s happened in Sudan

For more than two years war crime after war crime has occurred, it’s the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, and nobody really cared
