Hey, remember when the Panama Papers were released and they showed how basically every wealthy person on the planet was avoiding taxes by offshoring their money and nothing was done about it except the reporter who broke the story was murdered with a car bomb?

We wrote a thing about academic silencing of Palestine within the (feminist/queer) refugee law community. Hope you enjoy the read 🍉

Biggest thing I will not miss about the global realignment away from the US: the whims of floating voters in swing states deciding the lives and deaths of villagers in South Sudan.

In response to Poland's disproportionate, unnecessary & unlawful decision to temporarily suspend asylum,
@ec.europa.eu's silence speaks volumes.
@adrianatidona.bsky.social tells @euobserver.com the law does nothing to address border security, only penalizing refugees & migrants.
EU cites security in semi-endorsement of new Polish anti-asylum law
The European Commission appears to be endorsing a new Polish law that strips away the right to asylum for most people entering in from Belarus.

In the past months, I have been thinking a lot about the systematic suppression of freedom of expression worldwide.

Thanks to the NQHR for the opportunity to further elaborate some thoughts originally shared in a post published by the Geneva Graduate Institute

I had not posted a quote by Francesca Albanese in a while, so here it is, this time for the bureaucrats.

Primo Levi, incidentally, was a Holocaust survivor who committed suicide because of survivor's guilt and because of what he saw as indifference to the horrors his people had gone through.

Absolutely brilliant piece by @marinavelickovic.bsky.social on the current crisis in the discipline of international law (and many other things). I liked it so much that I even left what was surely the first and hopefully the last public comment in a blog.

Absolutely can't get over the fact that Alice Wiedel is married to a Sri Lankan woman, has two kids and lives outside of Germany.

Oh yes, but no to migration, to non-traditional families, yes to nationalism.

Contradictions and hypocrises do no longer matter if you are a white fascist populist.

This (and all the rest of the thread).
I know the material reasons for the rise of fascism. I also think another reason - which doesn’t get talked about as much because it’s embarrassing that humans can be that naive - is that when you are financially comfortable but bored, abstract cruelty can give you a sense of purpose.
