That’s one of the striking differences you notice as soon as you get out of the First World into the Third World. Minds are much more open. We live in a highly indoctrinated society. (1/2)

Never forget "the countless small actions of unknown people" (Howard Zinn), especially now, when evil seems to have the upper hand; do not overlook the salt-of-the-earth who are trying by way of money, prayer, protest—to name but a few expressions—to tend to the near impossible.

The Met now says it arrested 522 people yesterday on terrorism charges for supporting action to stop the genocide in Gaza.

More than a fifth were over the age of 70. Each faces up to 14 years in jail.

"Religion is no substitute, but is the ultimate accomplishment to every other activity of the soul." This profound statement, which the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Wolfgang Pauli recorded in a report of a dream, is found in Jung's CW11, ¶ 58. I quoted it here. substack.com/home/post/p-...

How are we to read this canine element and its progressive disappearance over time? What does the dearth of animals in mainstream Christian representations signify? In my latest post, I discuss Saint Christopher the Cynocephalus—an idiosyncratic image that was once a living part of Orthodoxy.

The siege has to end. There must be an unconditional and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid. Anything less is genocide-washing.

The echoes of the past are not lost on us. The haunting images of desperate and starving Palestinians fleeing gunfire and forced to crowd into metal cages for hours on end as they await aid invoke the suffering to which many of our own families were subjected during the Nazi Holocaust.

It’s worse than “Gaza is being starved and destroyed and no one cares.” It’s that hundreds of millions *do* care and are powerless to stop it. We need a world where that can never happen, where the masses actually have political power.

"Someone conceived it, there were discussions of pros and cons, alternatives were suggested, options of total cleansing vs. stages, and all done in air-conditioned conference rooms with minutes taken and decisions made," [Gideon] Levy wrote in an opinion piece in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

"To engage the written word means to follow a line of thought, which requires considerable powers of classifying, inference-making, and reasoning. It means to uncover lies, confusions, and overgeneralisations, to detect abuses of logic and common sense."

To wit, if the 5% defence spending pledge was a 5% climate adaptation surety, we might—might—avoid the worst end of the new charts of the ensuing decades.
