A few years ago, I watched as two Finnish police officers stopped to help a woman on the street. One of the officers explained to me that Finland had decided to end homelessness.

On top of that, they provide social services to the people they give homes too.

Guess what? It's a good investment.
“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.

75% of the United States' commitments to the Paris climate agreement can be met by state and local policy.

No matter who is in the federal government, state and local leaders can still showcase American leadership on climate.

There’s no less efficient use of space than designing our cities around cars first. It’s also elitist, as it punishes those who can’t afford cars, making them nothing more than an afterthought.
This iconic Fabian Todorovic cartoon is still one of the best I’ve seen at illustrating the remarkable amount of space we surrender to cars, leaving little space left for everyone and everything else. The text added later makes the bonus point that many drivers still manage to complain about it.

If you haven’t read “The New Climate War” by @michaelemann.bsky.social, which goes into great detail of the techniques used / shared by both the tobacco and fossil fuel industries to cover things up, I’d thoroughly recommend it.

There are SO many similarities as I’m sure you already know.

Climate data from @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social shows, it is virtual certainty that 2024 will be the warmest year on record and the first calendar year above 1.5°C.
This does not mean the Paris Agreement has been breached, it means ambitious #climateaction is more urgent than ever
