Also, gen-x doesn’t deserve a Democratic candidate, but millennials most certainly do.

This is something congress can fix and must fix.

It's real simple. Pass a law that says "in immigration cases, a habeas petition may be brought in the district of arrest of brought within 3 months of the initial arrest"
So it’s a race: how quickly can a person’s family realize they were snatched and find a lawyer, and how quickly can that lawyer get a habeas petition of file? And is that faster than ICE can load the detainee on a plane to Texas?

It’s exhausting and terrifying. It can be life and death.

RFK Jr/MAHA world say they're not reducing access to vaccines for anyone who wants them, only giving people "choice" to opt out.
But by refusing to even review new vaccines, yes, they are absolutely blocking those who want a new immunization from ever having access to it.

But how can you live without fear so close to not one but two unsecured state borders where no one knows what criminals are coming across from Indiana or Kentucky?

Going to add that substack offers a terrible user experience for its readers, one that prioritizes harvesting more engagement over giving users simple control of content they want to read. Evan if it weren’t fascist-friendly I would avoid reading content on there for this reason alone.

Markwayne Mullin defends "show me your papers": "If you're here legally, there's nothing to hide. Most people already are walking around with a government-issued ID, meaning your Real ID or your driver's license. If you go board a train here, you gotta show your ID."

Tasks that code-parroting machines are not adept at accomplishing. We’re not dictation-taking-typists, who were made expendable by PCs with word processors. We’re problem solvers who, at most, might become slightly more productive if LLMs can help to speed up mundane tasks.

Normie coder here, with no monetary interest in AI, and I’m not freaking out at all. We don’t spend most of our time writing code. We spend a lot of it helping non-coders to figure out what exactly they need from their systems, how to integrate into existing systems without breaking things, etc.

Really bad - not just b/c the FDA refused even to review the application after previously indicating they would, but b/c this biotech is very important: the article doesn't mention it, but an mRNA vax could be produced much faster than a std. flu vax, & so, offer a superior fit w/ circulating virus.

The FDA has refused to accept an application from Moderna to review its first mRNA seasonal flu vaccine, the company said, in another setback for the technology that’s been a target of some Trump administration health officials. https://cnn.it/4kt8iyn

Really shouldn’t get ahead of ourselves, but maybe Democrats’ ”Project 2028” should include drafts of some Constitutional amendments just in case.

Also Clinton happened to be the first candidate from a postwar generation that made up an unusually-large proportion of the electorate (so impactful demographically, that 7 straight, and 8 of 9, administrations would be of that generation). I remember it being a big deal at the time.

Given his narcissism I could easily see him overseeing an Apprentic-like “primary“ that functions like his cabinet meetings where prospective successors compete to kiss his ass. He also likes to pit everyone against each other whom he sees as mooching off of his own success.

It’s not just an assumption that his supporters made, it’s they way that Trump and outlets like the WSJ presented his views during the campaign: tough policies to deter/remove “bad” people coupled with increased and easier immigration for “good” people: www.wsj.com/opinion/dona...

To the extent these folks were entrepreneurs who built things of use to society it was before they were billionaires. They did so despite very little chance they would become billionaires. We would have plenty of entrepreneurs (maybe even more) with a 100% marginal tax on >$1 billion.

Putting aside what works for long-term relationships, I do think adults would be generally better off if in childhood and young adulthood socialization wasn’t so gendered. Normalized cross-gender friendships probably make people better partners, even if one doesn’t ultimately partner with a friend.

Even if this is where the party settles, progressive groups have an important part to play in sounding very displeased so that a handful of congressional Ds can play their desired role of “independent-minded centrists”.

Some institutions, particularly public schools with less state funding, are exceptions. And the net cost curve is steeper than 25 years ago, so relatively wealthier families pay more than 25 years ago, but on net, and especially for those with less-than-average wealth, it’s more affordable.

Yes, all colleges have for decades reported data to the federal government, including net cost to students after financial aid, and when adjusted for inflation net cost was highest 25 years ago.

I think a lot of 2nd/3rd-gen “dual income“ households take for granted how much of their (grand)parents’ feeling of wealth growth was simply from going from one to two incomes in the household, which has for a while now been the baseline/norm.
