It's been a dark week, but I just saw someone reply to an "Abolish ICE" post with a scoldy Bluesky "Uh, try abolish DHS" and that joy will sustain me for a little while.

FOLKS IN MINNEAPOLIS:

SAVE all videos & photos from today. They will be valuable to prove the ICE agent --- who had time to move & re-position himself to the side of the victim's car to shoot into the driver's side window --- was not in reasonable fear of imminent serious physical injury or death.

losing my mind at the "she should have followed directions" people

really? really? you're cool with "if you don't follow directions, they get to kill you"? that seems like a good state of affairs to you? that seems like how law enforcement ought to work: instant obeisance or death?

Austin, time to Peay up you dolts
A professor from Austin Peay State University will be paid $500K after initially being fired for a social media post on Charlie Kirk’s death.

The professor had simply reposted Kirk’s own thoughts about gun deaths and the Second Amendment.

Good point from @markjacob.bsky.social, worth thinking through now:

"The media’s general deference to the US military’s need for operational secrecy is likely to be tested in coming months and years. After all, Trump is perverting the mission of the military far beyond legitimate national security"
“The press has to ask itself: Is it still in the public interest for journalists to keep secrets about Trump’s anti-democratic use of the military?”
My free Stop the Presses newsletter.
Will the press continue to keep Trump’s military secrets?
The goal is protecting the troops, but secrecy can also protect criminality

There is no greater current threat to democracy or global order than donald trump. The leaders of democratic nations must stand up and stop the US aggression as our own leaders are cowards. Trump means to be his own brand of Putin taking whatever he pleases.
Greenland is happening. Not a joke, not trolling, not a distraction. He has already made up his mind and nobody who matters in the inner circle will try to talk him out of it. Some of them want it precisely because it will destroy NATO. There are no adults in the room. They really mean to do it.

It will take a long, long time, but I hope that history treats all of these cowards and the traitors they are.
Specifically, these individuals could have stopped all this from happening but chose not to:

Five years ago, the current occupant of the White House incited a violent riot to stop the peaceful transfer of power resulting in several deaths, thousands of convictions. Then half of this stupid ass country returned him to power, he pardoned his cult members, and is now burning the world down.

When this awful era of our nation passes there will be MAGA cultists will try to say they never supported this. Don't ever let them forget they worshiped this man. They should be shamed for this for the rest of their lives

Now I have a sense of the pieces of cardboard Putin must pick to lead the Duma.

Propaganda works - this is also why conservative oligarchs are investing so much to purchase trusted media brands and convert them into propaganda outlets
Excellent piece from @gelliottmorris.com on how your news diet affects your politics and how you view the Trump Regime. Those with a heavy diet of conservative media view Trump favorably, while those with a diet of non-conservative media view him unfavorably.

This is deeply rooted in Reagan era bullshit selfishness, the great lie that this country was, is, or would ever be because of people doing things themselves. Society only works together and these assholes are doing their damnedest to destroy it all out of spite.
When we were wearing masks, I not only didn’t get COVID, I didn’t get sick at all for well over a year iirc.
“having to mask made me go fash” is so common and it’s just baffling

I mean, yes, it was annoying to wear one all the time? it also wasn’t that big a deal? if, today, someone asks me to put a mask on I go “ok” and put one on

and yet so many people treat it as a life-ruining imposition
