Hmmmm, having never ever been served any ads for guns on Facebook this appeared on my feed after reading about the horror yesterday. The ugliness of the algorithm in full display.

I like the weekend AFR.. but sometimes the writers in the SmartInvestor section and editors need to have a good long hard look at themselves. The changes are still extraordinarily generous (should be $2m and then the rest outside super). The histrionics and wailing are next level...

No shit Sheelock: "In practice, a range of conceptual, administrative and political considerations have made the taxation of imputed rental income difficult to implement in practice"
As industry leaders and the federal government prepare for next week's economic summit, two economists have started a national conversation by arguing that, to make Australia's tax system fairer, we should consider taxing home owner-occupancy. Here's what that means.

What a curse News Corp is on this country. These and other accusations contribute to the gagging of discussion. They won the war even though they lose every battle.

Lattouf’s victory, our fight: Standing firm against intimidation
In April 2025, I posted a comment in The Age, sharing how, after 40 years in my Goldstein neighbourhood, I’d never felt unsafe until I was wrongly accused of antisemitism.

More ridiculous statements from "Opposite land". Vested power is outraged that SHC has found a way to support communities to elect excellent non-major candidates who commit to voting for evidence based climate policy.
i ask you to judge me by the enemies i have made and the unhinged things they say about me on sky news.

(the irony that the CEO of an astroturf misinformation vehicle would say these words on rupert murdoch’s network is not lost on me.)

A fake video masquerading as a report by The Sun has gone viral. It baselessly claims Olena Zelenska has bought Princess Diana's "revenge dress" from Harry and Meghan for $2.9m.

The clip is likely the work of a known Russian disinformation operation that mimics news outlets to disparage Ukraine.

Crossbench pressure will lift and improve Albo’s game
Now that the danger of a Dutton Government has receded, a good many left-of-centre people would rather that Labor had less than an outright victory.

To paraphrase a past PM (Keating) of Australia... Trump's advisors are just a bunch of vested interests looking for a policy.

The AFR not just peddling misinformation - they are outright lying

Albanese did NOT agree with Dutton to force China to sell Darwin Port. Albanese pushed the idea as an election promise & Spud panicked & had a me-too moment.

Dutton had 9 years to fix that NT Lib fck up & did nothing

OMG... a US district of some sort has discovered the genius of preferential voting (has been used in Australia for decades... if not centuries). It is so tragic watching Euro run offs, and the US and UK have ridiculous elections based on single use votes.
I made a very rough video of me trying to explain RCV the other day, in case it helps anyone clarify Ranked Choice Voting for NYC.

TLDR; fill all 5 spots on your ballot for maximum impact!

Shocking & shameful from Trump. Is there not a single journalist in the White House with the courage to step up and point out Zelenskyy is the democratically elected leader of a sovereign country who is bravely standing against the illegal invasion of Ukraine by a murderous dictator?

the major parties have seen their primary votes fall from 96% in 1975 to 68% in 2022.

they had two options to arrest the decline:

1. win back trust with good governance & good policy
2. rig the system

tonight they chose to rig the system.

a dark day for australian democracy.

This is exactly right.
The new electoral laws rammed through the Senate last night corrupts our democracy by rigging the system in favour of the ALP/LNP duopoly. To add insult to injury, their hands are in your pockets grabbing more taxpayer cash for their propaganda. #auspol
