I think it was a good idea but too complex to administer. Should be a $2m indexed limit then back to normal marginal rates. The non indexed $3m would achieve this eventually, but now I think the $3m may be indexed. Idiots.

It seems to me they can't bridge the gap between what the electorate needs and their party membership. One path would be for a new modern grouping of small L liberals to emerge from the increased # of independents.

Agree. This inheritance will be great for the families that receive it. But many will not and the discussion completely ignores the reality for many. It is equivalent to the "all boomers are rich" narrative.

If they are up for $120K per year then that means that cap gains and earnings after costs in super are maybe 500k per year above the tax free amount they earn as couple of $4m and the earnings on $2m at 15% and 40k earned on $1m outside of super a 0%. Tragic.

The hysteria is staggeringly. AFAIK anyone in an industry fund is automatically paying CGT on unrealised gains Every. Single. Month. This is new (and fair) for cashed up SMSFs who don't even pay as much tax as the rest of us on balances below $3m. FFS.
