Starting my gay fantasy novel's draft 1 to draft 2 comparison thread with a section from the meet cute.

This part has stayed mostly the same and I hope the whole scene survives future edits because I really like it.
“Who are you?” the tikbalang demanded, mouth moving like a human’s. “How did you get in here?” “I’m Lilim’s new apprentice,” I sputtered. My feet were so cold I couldn’t feel them anymore. He considered me for a moment. Right when his shoulders relaxed, his muzzle retracted into his skull. Golden skin resurfaced as his brown fur sunk. The next moment, a broad man was standing in front of me. (the before version)

I read 12 books last year, which I set in hopes of beta reading for other authors, but I ended up playing a lot of video games and managed to only do one. 5 of them were written by Filipino authors, with The Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez becoming my new fave fantasy.

I've started editing the first draft of my gay fantasy book, and I swear chapter 1s are the hardest to edit. It took me a week to make mine readable.

Anyways, I might continue documenting my writing journey and post comparisons between edits and the snippets I've posted.

Here's v1 of my page 1:
1 If my arm weren’t bleeding, I’d acquaint myself with the curious trees closing in on me. The woods I ran to for sanctuary had shed their deep-colored leaves for neon green. Trunks that had aimed for the clouds now snaked over the damp earth. In the hour I’d spent wandering these parts, not once had the thicket that gave roof above my head for countless nights appeared. It shouldn’t be too far from our backyard. Even the old mango tree with the car-tire swing was nowhere to be found. As far as I knew, forests transformed over time, not in a matter of minutes, or at least not naturally. The stars were brighter than ever, though none could point me where to go. This strange woods just kept going. Leaves of young banana plants and rainbow fan palms crowded my path. Walking became a struggle than it already was, but I knew if I continued forward, I’d eventually hit the national road or someone’s house. Blood ran down my sleeve with no plans of stopping. Even though I had endured many injuries in the past, a gunshot wound was nothing like any of them. Red needles stung my shoulder while my hand was freezing cold. It was an experience I wouldn’t recommend. If I could dig the bullet out of my limb, I’d manage until I found help. Although I would pass out trying.
