In honor of this weekend's annual fall meeting, we have joy-scrolled (not you, Dr. R!) the last month & reposted IL classics content, pretending that this account has not been dormant for months (& four months.) Apologies for the levity. Come join us at our meeting, starting tonight with a social!

Digital heritage and virtual realities class in “The Ancient World in Video Games” course went smoothly thanks to the excellent people at the UIUC VR Lab. Not pictured, me hitting the table to pick up the wands.

Just asked my library to purchase One of the Boys by @dirtbagqueer.rocks , Changeover by @girinathan.bsky.social , and Clodia of Rome by @dougboin.bsky.social . Mostly because I want to read them, but maybe someone else will too. Support your local library!

Have you gotten through a basic Latin textbook like LLPSI or Wheelock's, but you hit a wall with authentic texts? Tiered readers get you reading real Latin as soon as possible, without poring over lexicons and commentaries ( = working in English, not Latin).

ACL is proud to offer a new publication.

The American Classical League > A Folded History: Poems and Mythologies
A Folded History: Poems and Mythologies features poems and postludes from a special issue of The Classical Outlook, with a bonus interview with editor Phil Walsh and illustrator Emma Hunter. This libellus ("little book") features forty-eight poets, including Chris Childers, Julia Griffin, Charles Martin, and A. E. Stallings, and it presents remarkable creative and critical engagements with the ancient Mediterranean world and its reception. Introduced by editor Rachel Hadas, A Folded History will be a worthy addition to your bookshelf, local library, and syllabus.

I did another terrible thing. Will no one stop me. Truly, I have no shame. #MagistraGetsToTeach101

(the students seemed to very much appreciate the mnemonic for -ed verbs; I would write this part in 8-point font if I had such functionality on this website)

I suppose it makes more sense if I also post the preceding slide

Hunting for the verb isn't reading. Translating isn't reading. Parsing isn't reading. Sometimes they're necessary steps on the path to reading, but they're not reading. Reading is reading.
