The conversation around expatriation is so privilege exposing and exhausting. Not everyone has the means or opportunity to leave the US. And when I listen to friends talk about how they've discovered Loophole A or whatever, it makes me sad because they've given up.
Friends outside the country either think I am not well to stay in America or they don’t understand why we’re upset.

I had no idea that 12/12 was the Feast Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe. I also had no idea that the whole parade would be starting directly under my apartment.

I don't see a coarsening of American society*, I see a populace starved for wrongdoers/criminals to face any consequences, to the point where someone being assassinated feels satisfying, even though the act itself is objectively wrong.
It’s so interesting to see these urgent exhortations to reestablish decorum. I have not seen evidence of a “coarsening” of American society. If anything, the opposite: I’ve seen thousands of individuals asserting their humanity and protesting the indignity of the system UHC profits from.

Finished watching Anatomy of Lies on Peacock today and yikes. I barely knew Elizabeth Finch in college, but we had a class or two together, and it feels crazy to even have sat beside someone capable of that kind of deception and grift. Fascinating docuseries though.
