HELLOOO! I appear to have a flurry of new followers! Welcome lovelies! Here you will find writing news and musings, reading recommendations, maybe some art, #momentsofbeauty and probably some cats. I'm hella queer and neurospicy. I love posts (or replies!) that teach me new things or make me think.

It's very rare you get to read something so astonishingly beautiful. I'm in tears. Thank you @emelkrishnan.bsky.social 💙
“Ichthyosis” is live on @fantasymagazine.bsky.social and free to read! I will forever love Fantasy Magazine for giving my story such a gorgeous home. If you’re in the mood for animal transformations, a horror of the body & home, a sea and an unmooring, then this is the story for you. 💙
the time has come

the final GLORIOUS story ✨

"When your skin peels away from your loosening flesh in coils, trailing soft, brown ribbons in its wake, your lovers swathe you in cotton-gauze and bring you to the sea."

Let's start 2026 with as much creative freedom as possible.

#Amwriting #Writersky
This set of observations is produced by my scrolling Reddit and otherwise listening to people talk about "how to write."

A) there is no requirement that any of your characters has any sort of "arc" let alone a redemption.

B) there is also no requirement that your fiction has a plot.

I love this time of year, when @runalongwomble.bsky.social tries to cut down my TBR instead of adding to it for once!

Maybe next year I will read more books than I purchase... 🧐🤩🤣

This is my kind of nerdery - absolute attention to detail. And given the number of people who will now be watching both intently to make their own comparisons, possibly the best Rickroll of all time, where you know it's happening but you feel compelled to do it anyway. Bravo. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

And yet, there is more beauty to be found not five minutes from my house. 🍄‍🟫

I spent Christmas on the Jurassic coast, and had a wonderful hike on Boxing Day. There were still a lot of funghi to be found, so please enjoy each tiny #momentofbeauty 🍄🍄‍🟫

On the 2nd day of Christmas, the Peppermint Man crawls through the labyrinth of tinsel-lined cardboard boxes he's worked on the past month. He can't remember what's at the end of the labyrinth but he shudders when his mind brushes the thought. He fights the urge to chew through the cardboard walls.

I've just finished Cage of Stars by @frasierarmitage.bsky.social - what a fantastic novel, huge in scope but still feels like an intimate journey. Highly recommend.

Journal entry 314. We have taken respite on the gas giant Arisia. I float in an atmosphere filled with charged particulates, basking in the glow of Arisia's three suns. My chromatophores soak up the light, and my skin ripples with gold and magenta and origin-coral orange. I am at peace here.

My second outing to Bridge Command, acting as First Officer and piloting the shuttle. We absolutely did not blow up the UCS Havock, not even a little bit, honest.

This is my new favourite bottom-dwelling carpet shark. Isn't nature grand.
The Tasselled Wobbegong is a master of disguise that can eat a fish almost as big as itself in one gulp. It's classified as a shark, but when it lays on the sea floor it looks like a harmless rug if you manage to see it. But with powerful jaws and sharp teeth they are no fish to mess with.

Very happy with the blending on this one. It's the perfect partner to the other piece, though a bit of work to do still on the glow in the dark paint so will come back to that later.

Being off work with exhaustion is difficult for someone neurospicy who likes to be busy all the time.
So I bought myself a bunch of acrylics. It turns out it is just as fun now as it was when I was a teenager, especially if you play with glow in the dark paint!

I finally felt able to write a bit today, and have just finished typing up all five recipes to go in 'Taste', my WIP food themed genre collection.

Just the final edits to go on the opening novella, then I can compile it all and send to the publisher I'm hoping will take it on!
