New: I spoke with a Colombian asylum seeker who was the victim of a ‘Kavanaugh stop’ about what it was like to be racially profiled, abducted in front his family and held in ICE detention hours from home for more than a month—despite doing everything “the right way.”

This is Nick’s story.

This is the kind of desperate spam I'm getting from "AI" companies, and I'm small potatoes in the grand scheme of streaming and videos.

Oh, your "founding ambassadors?" Gotta crank that FOMO, huh?

No, no, I really believe this is gonna go somewhere, sure.

BREAKING: X’s chatbot Grok isn’t just making AI porn deepfakes, it’s now making Nazi AI porn deepfakes, undressing women and showing them wearing “swastika bikinis”. Many of these women are Jewish, including a recently deceased Holocaust survivor.

Anyone not actively involved in impeaching and no other activity should just resign. There is no government until he is gone. Pretending otherwise props up him, not government.

Fortunately I didn’t have to deal with this problem in my White Queen run… 💎
My new year resolution was not to think of the old thread on the cbr x forum of “when Emma frost turns into diamond, do her breast implants turn into diamond?” and I’ve already blown it.

I belong to a generation whose collective sexuality was thrown into chaos by the cast of The Mummy, and that of course includes Rachel Weisz, so this tracks.

CHEWBACCA #3 (2015)

I love the premise of leaving Chewbacca’s growls and roars untranslated, and Noto rises to the challenge of expressing him. But the story’s too reliant on the kid. I feel like there would have been more to build on if this came out after the Solo movie.

A pretty generic “hero visits poor planet being exploited for its natural resources by the Empire” plot here, a structure that really dates back to the original 70s Marvel comic run. But even a generic Star Wars is beautiful to look at with Phil Noto.

And again, one could make the argument that these kinds of blunt, direct political references don't add anything to the story anyway, or that they break immersion--this is not an argument about storytelling; just about the shifting red lines of publishing.

I tried to think of the most recent example I could remember of a Big 2 book specifically referencing real-life non-fictional current events, and this was the only one that came to mind--and to be fair, Bill (a conservative) would have a hard time publishing this today either. (Fables, circa 2003)

This is NOT to say that referencing real-world events is necessarily better comic book storytelling than cloaking them in metaphor. Most of the time the metaphor gives you more juice anyway. This is just an observation that talking abt *real countries* and *real events* is a far harder sell now

Genuinely concerned by the # of ppl who responded to this with examples of stories about vampires, fictional countries and blue cat people. Do people not understand what a metaphor is? Or do they think Latveria is a real place? Can you genuinely not see the diff between Avatar and the Nocenti panel?

You'd have to make up a country called "Anamapama" and make the drug some kind of glowy sci-fi substance and the instigators would have to be a shadowy made-up intelligence agency that you could hand-wave away when necessary
