The as-yet untold story of the government shutdown: neighbors creating food pantries and stone soup kitchens for their neighbors. America being already great despite itself.

A new study of 2 million people using mobile phone data shows that walkable neighborhoods mean people walk more. Which means healthier humans.
Steps increased by 25 percent for those who moved to an area with higher walkability, reflecting that people's behavior is influenced by the built environment. -Figure 1e.

Ed Zebra was returned home safely today. Seriously thought for a minute "Wow, Amazon drones can deliver anything" and then I thought "NOW I REALLY WANT TO ORDER A ZEBRA THROUGH AMAZON"

I really wish throwing shit in the river we all get our drinking water from wasn't a punchline, much less a thing people do for some reason. Jelly Roll throws a cellphone into the Cumberland as a Christmas tradition (please pick a new tradition, JR, ly!). Normalize not throwing shit in the river.

Think about all the money, blood, steel, and lead we've expended over the last century asserting and maintaining US influence/dominance in the world... All squandered in just a few months. American exceptionalism just got Trumped.

Cory Booker's speech was impressive. It was like learning he just did 1000 pushups on the Senate Floor. Much strength! Much endurance! But to what end? What did it accomplish besides mollifying a desperate dem base to see someone do something? And it wasn't even a thing, really....

Been seeing a LOT of social media showing/talking about how Nashville's crime is out of control. Feels like fertilizing the election field.

Who's to say all our devices aren't recording everything always and feeding it into an AI that takes notes about everything we say out loud about anything/anyone and creating detailed profiles of our relationships and what we thought was private information and makes conclusions about us?

"Hey all you #Nashville people, who can make it out in the morning to this location. Andy is doing a "mobile town hall" at this Center and it's open to the public! 😁
We'll be there, will you?"

@claxton6.bsky.social - I noticed the charts in your H&I presentation shows data starting in 2012, but NN wasn't released until 2015 and not officially adopted until 2017. Were the 2012 projections never updated when the report was released 3-5 years later? And where are current projections?

When the conversation about housing affordability fails to focus on income or interest rates and focuses solely on "more supply", I get skeptical. Housing prices have gone up 4x faster than wages and everyone wonders why no one can afford to buy a house... wtfhappenedin1971.com

Yes, I'm quoting my Republican Governor from the State of the State speech on Monday: "How do we balance record growth with a plan to protect our natural resources? You start by rejecting conventional wisdom that says you cannot do both. To grow Tennessee, we have to conserve Tennessee."

I've lost count - but I helped produce the first four or five live GRAMMY awards webcasts. It's so weird and wonderful to see how far things have progressed. So many great memories from that era of my life.
