Juliet Turner is an amazing Irish singer-songwriter. I co-wrote and produced her new record, now on Bandcamp. julietturner.bandcamp.com/album/home-f....

I also made a web app as an antidote to the soulless horror of Spotify: julietturner.music - a modern day liner notes experience.

Enjoy ♥️♥️♥️

Some advice: “finishing creative projects is a skill in and of itself. if you want to be able to finish large, complex projects, you have to _practice finishing things_. which usually means doing smaller projects.” [bsky.app]

It’s #internationalcatday and since my little daughter loves cats, plenty of them show up regularly in my sketchbooks. Here are some recent ones 😊

It's great to switch tools every now and then. It helps reset your working habits and see things from a slightly different perspective. You can always return to your favourite tools, of course, but there's also a good chance you might find some new favourites. Neocolor 2 pastels & Pith sketchbook.

Is This the Best Cover of Radiohead’s Creep? Musical theater major Erin Morton absolutely blisters the paint off of the walls with her performance. Wow. I actually got some goosebumps watching this. [kottke.org]

This take on AI-made pictures is the best I've read since the madness started. Roman Muradov is always so sharp and good at his thinking – and drawing, and writing-.

“You are taught to talk, read and write, but no one seems to teach you how to perceive. […] You don’t really see something unless you draw it, or at least unless you mentally draw it. It makes you look at things.” — Alan Fletcher

Great to write about Alan's sketchbooks

My dear friend @iancul.bsky.social sent me this today... it's so charming. A story about how a Japanese woman programmed a loop into the Casiotone MT-40 in the early 80s which got used on a monster reggae track. Her inspiration for the loop? Watch and see ♥️

Reggae emerged in the 1960s and in 1985 Wayne Smith's Under Mi Sleng Teng revolutionised the genre. But the riddim of this famous song didn't come from the island - it was written by a Japanese woman,...

Friends, I'm moving soon & I need to let go of many design books from my collection (including some rare ones too)? Is ebay the most convenient? Or do you know any specialised shops or sellers I could talk to? Thanks very much!

£126bn and 2.4 million people.

That’s the size of the creative industries in the UK and every DCMS Minister has had to fight HMT and Number 10 over support.

That’s about 10x the size of the motor industry and 4 x more productive.

Fishing? Less than £500 million.

Honestly if we were to rewrite The First Things First Manifesto for 2025 it could just be about creative communities holding hands against AI.

I teach the history of technological disruption. History tells me this is different. It does not end well. We have to hold hands.
“Cutting edge” design does not mean using AI to “cut out” illustrators/animators etc. Can we all please just hold hands on this? Damn.
