This year’s Hertzog Oration at #lorneiandi was delivered by the preeminent Michael Gale Jr. @mgalelab.bsky.social!🧬
From showcasing his pioneering research on the RIG-I pathway to future therapeutic applications, Prof. Gale's work has changed how we fight RNA viruses-from HCV to emerging flavivirus.

Brilliant first talk of #lornei&i 🤗 Great to see work on turbo charging existing vaccines for higher quality antibody responses!
Kicking off #lornei&I with our first Plenary! Hedda Wardemann and co. powered up antibody affinity and cross reactivity by modifying an existing malaria vaccine antigen! Hopefully this will make a next gen malaria vaccine with longer lived immunity 💪💉 @dkfz.bsky.social

Did you know the more SARS-COV-2 vaccines you get, the more IgG4 you will have? But what does this mean? Read all about it in @ruthamypurcell.bsky.social PhD paper! @amywchung.bsky.social @kev-in-science.bsky.social @viralvaxlab.bsky.social
Fantastic to have our study out describing the nuances of increased SARS-CoV-2 IgG4 following repeated mRNA vaccination 💉💉💉 @amywchung.bsky.social @kev-in-science.bsky.social @viralvaxlab.bsky.social
And great discussion started below!
#immunosky #IDsky #medsky 🧪

I know everyone missed thinking about IgG4, but we have a new study that finds some very interesting properties of anti-spike IgG4 elicited by mRNA vaccines

tl;dr- IgG4 seems to buffer inflammation but enhances the function of other antibodies when titers are lower

Marin County Public Health has released a bit more info on their suspected #H5N1 #birdflu case. A child who drank raw milk went to an ER vomiting & with a fever. Tested positive for flu A. That could be seasonal flu or H5. Not sure there will be a clear answer here. www.marinhhs.org/h5n1-bird-flu
