Potentially this gives an opening for VVD to enter in a coalition with them after all.
🚨 BREAKING: Frans Timmermans, former European Commission climate chief and leader of the Dutch GreenLeft-Labor ticket, announced he would resign as leader of the alliance after disappointing results in today's Dutch election.

Morgen kunnen we kiezen. Voor nog meer chagrijn en haat, óf voor hoop, samenwerking en vooruitgang. Het is tijd om de bladzijde-Wilders om te slaan. Stem morgen want samen laten we zien: het kan wél.

Siri, show me how a narcissist or sociopath might respond to the death of a dear family friend and ally.
Q: My condolences on the loss of your friend Charlie Kirk. How are you holding up?

TRUMP: I think very good. And by the way, right there you see all the trucks. They just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they've been trying to get for about 150 years.

EJ Antoni has never worked in statistics collection. He is 5 years out of his PhD. He's only ever written one economics paper. His explicit, only qualifications are that he works in ultra-conservative think tanks & believes Trump's conspiracies about the BLS. Grim stuff.

I mean, if you want to be extremely charitable, it could be a way to raise revenue (i.e. tax your citizens), while potentially getting a small rebate through terms-of-trade. But then just come out and say that, rather than "there is no tariff if you grow the bananas (and the coffee etc) in the US"
I am so glad "why tariff banana" thought is reaching members of Congress. It's the most obvious example of how insane this administration's trade policy has been—officials like Lutnick can't give a good justification for it because there simply isn't one
DEAN: What's the tariff on bananas?

LUTNICK: Generally 10%

DEAN: Walmart has already increased the cost of bananas by 8%

LUTNICK: If you build in America, there is no tariff

DEAN: We cannot build bananas in America

Dutch cabinet in trouble as Wilders' PVV announces it is leaving the coalition.
Het doek is gevallen voor het kabinet van PVV, VVD, NSC en BBB. Dat is geen verrassing. De keuze van de VVD om in zee te gaan met de PVV was onverantwoord – na maanden van chaos zien we nu het resultaat.

The EU's hand suddenly looks much stronger. Good that it didn't fall for the empty 50% threat and hasn't caved in any way.
So if you are a foreign government negotiating with the Trump administration about the IEEPA "Liberation Day" tariffs, and the tariffs have now been struck down (pending a probable appeal), it may be time to recalibrate your negotiating position.
US Court of International Trade just issued decision in case against Trump tariffs filed by Liberty Justice Center and me. All "Liberation Day"/IEEPA tariffs ruled illegal, and blocked by injunction! See link for opinion. I will have much more to say soon: www.cit.uscourts.gov/sites/cit/fi...

My take on today's US court tariff ruling. This is an excellent opportunity for the EU and other trading partners to quit preparing packages of concessions, tell Trump to shove it and get on with trading without the US.

First 300 clicks free. It being 3.42am here in London, I am now going to bed.
Court tariffs bombshell should inspire trading partners to defy Trump

Leges sine moribus vanae.
So we know it is illegal. What is the recourse against a corrupt DoJ & Exec Branch that are allowing this to happen? None. There is no recourse, so regardless of the ethics violations, if there is no one who can uphold those laws/rules, they are non-existent.

In Europe, it's (rightly) a big scandal if members of European Parliament are found to have secretly taken money, gifts or holiday trips from foreign powers. In the US, the current President is overtly accepting a huge Qatari plane...
Focus of the article is bribery but think about security concerns of having a foreign government outfit the plane of the US president.

Interesting anecdote: the US Mint uses EU-made machines and technology to mint US dollars. Goes to show how integrated and co-dependent the US and the EU are.
Excited to hear about the EU-US transatlantic relationship from the EU Ambassador at the #EUSA conference in Philadelphia.
