Probably the only rapper that can sample dialogue from “Dead Poets Society” and not have it sound cliché or corny.
Happy Navy Blue day.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that my social media timelines are stuffed with recaps of Andre 3000’s speech — and nothing for Salt’s far more relevant call for artists’s rights. Rap culture remains a boys’ club.

Underground hip-hop trend I'm struggling to figure out: dudes who rap fast like they're canvassing at a high-school debate competition.

I wrote the HipHop & R&B column this month: Ahkatari's "Blood: Act 1," Armand Hammer & The Alchemist's "Mercy," Danny Brown's "Stardust," keiyaA's "Hooke’s Law," Kelly Moonstone's "New Moon," and Princess Nokia's "Girls." I also reviewed DJ Premier & Roc Marciano's "The Coldest Profession."
The Wire 502 is out now!

Featuring Mulatu Astatke on the cover, plus Griot Galaxy, Emergence Collective, Test Dept’s Invisible Jukebox, Konrad Smoleński, Alpha Maid, and much, much more.

Very proud that I don’t give anyone from a certain Brooklyn scene a thumbs up just because they’re from that scene. Not a dis — those folks know I support them, in many cases before others did. But I still gotta do my job.

Eh…I guess the Slick Rick record was okay. And hey, maybe De La Soul and Nas will save the whole thing.
I wish there was a place where I could professionally express my disappointment over Mass Appeal’s “Legends” series so far.

If Bluesky's happy, I'm happy. Just remember to go easy on him next year.

You’ll probably have to settle for Nancy Pelosi.
I expect to see Schumer's resignation letter on my desk in the morning.

Rest in peace to Young Bleed. His “My Balls and My Word” is one of the best albums (perhaps *the* best imo) released on No Limit Records.

I've always enjoyed Werner von Wallenrod's stuff. He's one of the OGs of online rap fandom, and he's still running his little "humble little hip-hop blog." This post is about obscure Special Ed side project The A.R.A.B.S. wernervonwallenrod.blogspot.com/2025/10/the-...
The Mission Is To Find the A.R.A.B.S.!
Looking at some of the most overlooked and under-appreciated hip-hop from the 70's to today.

I miss the extremely modest amount of engagement I used to get on Twitter. But at least I don’t have to read dudes prattling on about Soulja Boy and Chief Keef anymore.

I’m not sure why folks insist on old Billboard charts as *math*, especially pre-Soundscan. It was a collection of surveys of radio jocks and retailers that were both useful tools and notoriously prone to manipulation and bias.
Tom is reliably correct on everything but this point, on which he's so wrong it's hard to believe he wasn't hacked. There are only like 5 duds in this list, but ofc using the Hot 100 as a barometer of a year's musical quality is as useful using an actual barometer to check what time it is
People need to stop retconning literally the worst era in American popular music history into something it wasn't, just because there were also some amazing records that like 250 people happened to be hunting down and listening to

Oh well…I’m sure they’ll make a lot of money.
