Anytime I see a moving screen called, I wonder why the 1,000 other, more egregious moving screens in the same game weren’t.

Something I tried to emphasize in the comparison to the first book:

Basketball on Paper was about measuring team and player performance.

Basketball Beyond Paper is about how to *change* performance.
I’m reading @deanolytics.bsky.social new book “Basketball Beyond Paper” and wanted to share this graph from the book.

Rim FG% based on height of nearest defender. Look how much height influences misses at the rim.

I recommend checking out the book: www.nebraskapress.unl.edu/nebraska/978...

The Jalen Brunson of Rodney Hoods

I struggled to articulate a comp for Wagler with @mikegrib8.bsky.social and @evanzamir.bsky.social on their podcast bc he’s so unique, but I’ve seen enough.

That scoring craft is Brunsonish.

That means he should go high.
Illini freshman guard Keaton Wagler with 20-points in the second half as Illinois takes down Northwestern 79-68

First 4-0 ROAD start in Big Ten play since Dee, Deron, and Luther.

Illini Freshman guard Keaton Wagler gets the switch and hits the step back three.

He's a 2026 1st round draft pick on some boards.

Big Z either cheering David Mirkovic up or giving him shit for going off glass for a made three when he didn't call bank.

––Ben Humrichous crashing the boards.
––Called a common foul.
––Illinois appealed for a potential flagrant-1 hook and hold.
––Refs reviewed and upgraded the foul.
––Illinois gets two free throws attempts + the ball.
––Same thing happened to Illinois in the Iowa game

Sensabaugh's 21 first-quarter points are the most for any bench player in the 1st quarter in the 30 seasons for which we have play-by-play data (hat tip to the Bulls broadcast).

Tops Lance Stephenson's 20 vs. BKN on 1/5/22.
Brice Sensabaugh just scored 21 points in 7:14 in the first quarter.

Capped it off with this bucket, which made me cackle.

#illini freshman guard Keaton Wagler gains positioning, offensive rebound, shot fake, then scores.

He will always try to use a shot fake to get the defender in the air to then set up his own shot.

At this rate, Giannis is going to be 50 and still playing for the Milwaukee Bucks. He won’t retire as long as someone offers him an NBA contract, and Milwaukee doesn’t want to be the team that forced him into retirement by not offering an extension.

In difficult and ever-changing times, it’s comforting to know there is at least one constant.
Fun fact: The Bulls have been 18-21 4 years in a row.
