Plakat - obere Hälfte ein Foto der Pflanze - untere Hälfte Text: Bei diesem 2 bis 3 Meter hohen und breiten Strauch handelt es sich um eine gärtnerisch selektierte Sorte. Der Strauch ist anspruchslos und ziert den Garten besonders im Winter durch die Lippen stift-rote Rinde seiner jungen Triebe. Der Farbstoff schützt empfindliche Zellen vor
UV-Strahlung. Durch Rückschnitt wachsen regelmäßig neue rote Triebe nach. Der Purpur-Hartriegel trägt von Mai bis Juni weiße Blüten, seine Früchte sind bläulich-weiß. Eindrucksvoll ist auch die leuchtend rote Herbstfärbung der Blätter. Die junge Rinde ist bei vielen Hartriegel-Arten und -Sorten gefärbt.
Oben auf dem Alpinum „brennt“ zurzeit Cornus sanguinea ‚Midwinter Fire‘ in orange-rot.
