The decision to downplay the importance of the public sector and give private companies free rein was the fundamental cause of a fragmented response to the pandemic. The Tories were and are useless at running a mixed economy.

I seem to remember that the UK had a falling birthrate and needed an influx of workers. The NHS and care services are particularly dependent on foreigners to fill vacancies.
