Music, movies and the occasional bit of TV. Sometimes those intersect with other aspects of life.
Continuing the countdown of my favourite albums of 2025.

8. Underneath - Floodlights

Floodlights are one of the few bands I know that are reminiscent of the great bands of Australian rock. They sound Australian and their connection to Australia shines through in their music.

9. Twilight Override - Jeff Tweedy

My appreciation for Tweedy comes and goes so it is kind of surprising that a triple album hits the mark. But there is something about it that keeps drawing me in.

Feels like forever since the Bill Fox album came out.

It feels weird to me that I can’t get into This Is Loralai. They just don’t hit for me.

10. Minor Gold - Way To The Sun

Australia’s own Minor Gold play a 60s/70s style of easy to listen to folk rock that is perfect for these warm summer nights.

11. Jason Isbell - Foxes In The Snow

No understanding of Foxes In The Snow is complete without knowledge of the breakdown in the marriage of Isbell and his wordsmith wife Amanda Shires.

White Nights (1985)
Director: Taylor Hackford

I have definitely watched this before but have only fleeting memory of it. As a time capsule from the 80s it is pretty entertaining. The music and dance sequences are great.

Starting a countdown of my favourite albums of 2025.

12. Tracks II - Bruce Springsteen
Tracks II consists of 7 albums recorded over 40 years that were shelved. There is plenty here that should have been released. It doesn’t all work but it is all essential for Springsteen fans.

Finding it really hard to sort a favourite albums list this year.

The Specialist (1994)
Director: Luis Llosa

This is one of those wonderful situations where a couple of actors think they are in a great movie and one guy knows he is in a bad movie. So much unintentional comedy here that it becomes a fun watch. The poster is almost as funny as the movie.

Cinema Paradiso (1988)
Director: Giuseppe Tornatore

I’ve owned this for years and only just gotten around to watching it. I should have done so when I bought it. What a fabulous film. A real one for lovers of film.

This is an accidentally honest answer. What she's saying in code is:
"The President is a misogynist, petulant bully. You've all seen him be a misogynist, petulant bully. And lots of voters out there are also misogynist or petulant or bullies and that's why they like him."
Q: What did the president mean when he called a reporter "piggy"?

LEAVITT: Look, the president is very frank & honest with everyone in this room. You'll all seen it yourself. You've all experienced it yourselves. And I think it's one of the many reasons the American people reelected this president

Better Man (2024)
Director: Michael Gracey

Boy I really did not like this movie. It looks great and sounds great but the use of the CGI monkey in the Robbie Williams part did not work for me at all.

Green Room (2015)
Director: Jeremy Saulnier

I had seen Green Room before but I remember being very distracted at the time and didn’t really absorb it so consider this a first time watch. What a great little film for its genre. Not for the faint hearted.

The Big Chill (1983)
Director: Lawrence Kasdan

Never really knew what this film was about. A lot going on here but to be honest I didn’t really enjoy any of it. Every single character here is unlikeable and their plot lines are stupid. I don’t believe any of these people would actually be friends.

Urban Legend (1998)
Director: Jamie Blanks

It’s quite stunning how this film looks so good but is so bad.

"Also amazing are pancakes, folks. A new word nobody has ever heard. I came up with it. They're like cakes but from a pan. I call them pancakes. Christians too. Adopting to pancakes. Very big stuff. Ballroom. Huge. And some say flarpnozzle bing. Bingidy bangidy. So sad. Flurp."
Trump: "Christians and more, think of this, more than twice as likely foster care they'll adopt the general population. They adopt to it so easily. When they get out, they adopt to it like it's become second nature. It's amazing."

Love seeing an opposition party faction smugly come out of a party room after winning a vote that will doom them to opposition status for a while to come.
Yesterday's Liberal partyroom meeting revealed a significant majority of MPs and senators want the party's commitment to net zero dropped, and Labor is pushing forward with its news bargaining incentive.
