I am talking to students about how to develop good master’s thesis projects today, and I have them looking at my own thesis after talking about the first paper I ever wrote about American evangelicalism and how it led me to where I am today. A bit unnerving.

President Roosevelt, Dec 9, 1941: "There is no such thing as security for any nation—or any individual—in a world ruled by the principles of gangsterism. There is no such thing as impregnable defense against powerful aggressors who sneak up in the dark and strike without warning."

I honestly hope he rolls out another one of those two-week plans he ends up just forgetting about, but I just can’t shake the feeling we are facing some truly terrible stuff.
Trump: "We are going to do something on Greenland whether they like it or not because if we don't it, Russia or China will take over Greenland. If we don't do it the easy way we're gonna do it the hard way."

Walking around Hobby Lobby is always a weird experience. And now this. While hearing a muzak version of A Mighty Fortress is Our God playing in the back. What would Def Leppard say?

My copy of Billy Graham's World Aflame (1965) is like a study of lived religion: The meticulous notes, the church service programs, and then this: a coupon for detergent saved for later in a section on the nature of Christ. Jesus might return soon, but you can't miss a good bargain! (Or, they did.)

'Tis grading season (and... *gestures wildly at it all*), but music helps. One of my favorites right now: Banda AL9's Gabrielle. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UIX...

Jstor's collection of the King's Business is pretty amazing. The magazines can be so elaborate and aesthetic. There are dramatic stories and images that neatly illustrate them. And then there's this.

I found a way to include some the lyrics from Carman and Petra's Our Turn Now to this article on religion in schools.

The ball got dropped in 62
They wouldn’t let children pray in schools
Violent crimes begin to rise
The grades went low and the kids got high

It sums it all up so well.

In all seriousness, I'd love to see a reporter try to get comments from all of these people about their initial impulse to declare a literal war on half of their fellow citizens and to see if any of them regret it, apologized for it or learned anything at all from it.
like this is the most irresponsible level of hysteria i’ve ever seen. most of these people are either paid by the republican party, or are high level advisors and allies. this is insane

Wow! Listen to this list of acts of political violence. It’s not even complete, but sobering AF.

Now, Charlie Kirk was shot and killed in front of a crowd, and the video is all over social media. This needs to stop.
