RE that RT.. it’s wild how steam reviews are still so damn important to getting visibility. If you play and like indie games, the most generous and helpful thing you can do is spend an hour popping positive reviews onto anything you like with <500 or so reviews.

A two-page ad from Japan in 1992 for the ASCII Stick Super L5, a one-handed controller aimed at RPG enthusiasts on the Super Famicom just in time for Dragon Quest V

This "long awaited" controller with its rotary face promised to make skipping through messages and earning experience even easier!
The one-handed controller seen here in the clawed grip of a poor monster whose cranium has been impaled by a sword (apparently the controller didn't help there) featured a rotary race that you could adjust to make life easier for your left or right hand. The captions also boast a "generous" 1.8 meter long cable and rapid fire switches, all fit onto an ergonomic design. How nice! Dragon Quest V had already been released in September and two screens from the game show up on this page to try and capitalize on the excitement around it in pushing the controller as an RPG "revolution" when it came to controls. Also advertised was a "crystal version" featuring a transparent case offered to a random pick of twenty lucky winners writing in to ASCII. Good luck! Advertised retail price (excluding tax): 2,980 yen. (roughly $24 USD in 1992 numbers!).

I've seen devs talk about going "all in" on Linux and not testing on Windows. I definitely think not testing a game on the platform with 94% of your customers is too big a gamble for me. I just don't have the trust/confidence level for that 😅

Virtua Fighter (Saturn) (1995)

Two young men enjoying their day on the beach when a mysterious wind blows, turning them into low-poly characters and instilling in them the burning desire to fight. That, of course, has nothing to do with Virtua Fighter. Well, except for the lovely beach under the beautiful SEGA-blue skies. Akira Yuki, the Ryu to Jacky Bryant's Ken, just kicked his opponent so hard he made Jacky fly up in the air as he's looking at the camera in a very "well, that's me... you're probably wondering how I got here" moment. The blue ninja Kage grabbing Jeffry and doing a very elegant, almost ballet-looking throw while holding his leg at almost 45 degree upwards as his opponent is about to hit the stone floor. Cannot confirm but I'm assuming the ninja is also doing a little tee-hee giggle. On the aforementioned beach, Jeffry McWild with his bare chest, beard and ponytail dreadlocks, having an argument with the Canadian pro wrestler Wolf Hawkfield, shouting at him and stomping his feet while Wolf looks hunched down like he's devastated, apologizing for not paying enough attention to his friend and possibly lover. Perchance later in the day, Wolf vents his frustrations at the poor Kage, doing a suplex on his ass, with the ninja looking at the beautiful rainbow colored sunset skies before he passes out from the ground slam.
