I updated my throwaway 7DFPS game so it's now in line with the original plan, and you stand a far greater chance of figuring it out.

Update to There Is No Exit
I started my 7DFPS 2025 game late, due to a couple of false starts on concepts I thought would be a good way to test 'simple' mechanical ideas I had, but which turned out to be not so simple. I still....

Repeated Difference Clouds is my new best friend. I don't know how they're doing their magic, all I know is they're great for making organics!

Tiling "rock + lava" game texture. 128x128, 64 colours. Made using photoshop and my homebrew palettising tool. Was fun, I would do this again. #pixelart #gamedev

Written up a simple little briefing text for the new mission - that's the front-end stuff done. Onto the script logic.

Deluxe Poly is still ticking over behind the scenes. Currently rewriting the whole UI to maintain the dpaint style retro UI but also allow native lines for a "pixel grid", etc. Still working on that - e.g. todo: the palette area 😅

We build to 4K resolutions, but it's always worth a reminder that the majority of players on Steam still use 1080p.

I've just uploaded a FOSS command line tool that'll do basic batch resizing of images with nearest or bilinear filtering and can optionally apply a palette+dithering to the PNG output. HTH

Bit of R&D today trying to recreate "Windows 95" style fog. Using a 256 colour palette (this is from Quake 1) with 32 steps of fog, each fogged colour is remapped back onto the original palette, which causes a kind of 'posterize' effect as the remapping choices dwindle. #gamedev

Getting the blinear filtering to work just like Photoshop was a fun challenge. As was figuring out the 'pyramid' approach to gettting large reductions to work properly. Hope the code makes sense 😅

I read they're pitching it as a 'pre-viz' tool - which, heaven help the people who have to build a game based on this crud. WRT to your question about investors - they don't care, it's a 'get in quick and make a buck' strategy, Genie doesn't have to actually work they'll have sold the stock by then.

Everyone loves AI. AI making games seems like a sure fire winner to me. Sell all my take two stock, they've not done anything for years.

This Sunday we did not muck about with DOOM levels. I decided to spend some time this weekend doing a bit more to my terrible jam game from December, so that someone who doesn't already know how to complete it has some chance of actually doing so.
