Apart from the obvious illegality of Trump’s invasion of #Venezuela and the potentially disastrous precedent it sets here at home, it also severely undermines America’s moral standing in the world. If the U.S. can invade Venezuela for oil, why shouldn’t Russia invade Ukraine or China invade Taiwan?

Ya know, maybe this kind of thing is why it’s good to remind our military not to obey illegal orders. Senator Kelley et al. tried to warn us all. #venezuela

Secretaries Rubio and Hegseth looked every Senator in the eye a few weeks ago and said this wasn’t about regime change. I didn’t trust them then and we see now that they blatantly lied to Congress.

Trump rejected our Constitutionally required approval process for armed conflict because the Administration knows the American people overwhelmingly reject risks pulling our nation into another war.

Trump is also saying that the once the US has rounded up individuals, with minimal or zero due process, on whatever pretext they choose, they can send them out of the US to face torture, death, life imprisonment, slave labor or other fates that are unconstitutional or illegal in the US.
Trump now saying — contrary to his previous statements and those of federal officials — that people removed from the U.S. to El Salvador are in the “sole custody” of El Salvador

The government’s statement is a flex, not a confession of error. The important elements of the flex are these:

1. We send enemies to brutal foreign labor camps.
2. We decide who enemies are.
3. We may decide you are an enemy based on a secret informant, or our view of your tattoos.

As bad as I expected it to be, it’s actually worse than I thought in many ways
How far we've come in 69 days:
-Huge swaths of government illegally shut down
-President is refusing to promise to leave office
-Growing impunity for regime allies, targeted prosecutions at opponents
-Regime using funding and legal threats to subvert universities and law firms
-Corruption endemic

The “methods for doing so” are (1) getting two thirds of Congress and three fourths of the states to repeal the 22nd Amendment and (2) declaring himself king.

That’s it.

Stop treating this despotic bullshit as if it’s some worthwhile thought experiment we have to consider as legitimate.
President Trump did not rule out the possibility of seeking a third term in the White House, which is prohibited by the Constitution under the 22nd Amendment, saying in an exclusive interview with NBC News that there were methods for doing so and clarifying that he was “not joking.”
