heartbreaking to see public health people people get as far as “ICE detention is a driver of disease” only to call for increased funding for ICE medical services not “free them all for public health”

yes, there are various kinds of dependencies associated with certain chemicals, behaviors, etc.

but! many of the social consequences associated with "addiction" have little or nothing to do with the thing being used & much more to do with social stigma or concurrent marginalization

better yet, stop using the term "addiction" - a poorly defined social construct that has never been medically or scientifically proven to exist - at all.

there are many kinds of *use*, which can (for complex reasons) be problematic or not -- & even those assignations are usually about race & class
I'll bang this drum till the day I die. I've said it before and I'll say it again

Using addictive as a descriptor for a video game is lazy and almost entirely inaccurate to the point you're trying to get across.

Balatro is not destroying the life of you and your loved ones, you just like the game
I cut addictive out of so many reviews. Unless you are talking about predatory mechanics that are literally designed to manipulate people in habit-forming ways, do not use it as "game is too fun!"

body cams are technocapitalism in a nutshell: take a problem (police/ICE violence) with an obvious cause (racist vigilantism & political impunity) and build a vast economic apparatus to literally enrich the people responsible while altering their behavior in no way whatsoever

I love you ICE watchers and protestors and organizers who continue to wear a mask to keep us all safer from covid, other airborne viruses and pollution, and gov surveillance, and who care about disabled and immunocompromised comrades who are your neighbors and part of your community too.

tl;dr punching a fucking scumbag fascist coward is, & always will be, the appropriate response

searching for exemplary figures in the united states government is not really my deal, but if we're going to recognize moments of genuine conviction i think it's valuable to note that they are almost *in opposition* to the bullshit civility & bureaucracy of the state

i dont think we need to turn Ilhan Omar into a comic book superhero; i think she looks like a person who actually has something to lose, who is a member of a real community, who understands that this is an *escalation* of state violence rather than something new; that's pretty inspiring on its own

there are so many things in this world that deserve care & patience & nuance; adjudicating whether racist murderous child-kidnapping vigilantes are technically fascists is not one of them
January 27, 2026 at 11:12 PM
a helpful way of understanding 99% of politicians is to picture the flakiest, least principled, most ambitious person you’ve ever met, then think about how having *real* power would embolden them, then about who they would be willing to throw under the bus to keep that power

The violence is not "boomeranging back," it's literally baked in and originates here. If we take Saidiya Hartman's invocation of the continuum of 1492 and the New World order on this side of the Atlatnic seriously, then we must see that colonial, fascist violence has always been here.

("public" here being a hugely oversimplified catch-all of course; my point is, rich violent people doing horrendous shit are not going to put on the brakes because we go waving the book at them)

"the rule of law" is not real; it has no inherent integrity; its architects inevitably weave their prejudices into the words & systems used to enforce it; if they are powerful enough they will discard it the instant it inconveniences them. law is built to constrain the public, not to empower us

ICE dont deserve morale, they deserve to be rounded into shipping containers and dumped into the sea, where they can at least be useful as food

"i have been to a military occupation elsewhere, and the people there tried to stop us from killing them too" as if it's some righteous mandate
