Deep Space Nine rewatch
S.3, Ep. 5: Second Skin

Kira gets a weird call about records of her from a Cardassian prison on Bajor, then wakes up on Cardassia Prime looking like a Cardassian.

Pretty good: Nana Visitor plays this sort of thing so well.

So decision time in my Trek rewatch.

I guess I'm watching Voyager.

The beginning is frustrating: there are so many great directions they could have gone with it.

(But. It gets better.)

S.3, Ep. 4: Equilibrium

Yet another Jadzia Dax ep where she gets sidelined (this time by a Trill disorder caused by a host she can't remember)

Lots of Avery Brooks, though, which is always good. And most of the scenes between Dax and Bashir from here out are oddly...nice.

S.3, Ep. 3: House of Quark

Love it -- Quark and Klingons, just for fun.

Mary Kay Adams, who plays the delightful Klingon Grilka (erstwhile wife of Quark), was also Na'Toth on Babylon 5.

It's been ages since an #ArtBreak.

Kay Nielsen (1886-1957) was a Danish illustrator who haunted our dreams in Fantasia. His Art Deco style graced fairy tale collections, where he highlighted the strangeness of fantasy realms, and sat with their grimmest edges: realms to be approached with caution.

S.3, Ep. 1 & 2: The Search (part 1 & 2)

Season 3...Sisko returns from earth with The Defiant, a shiny, overpowered new spaceship. They're supposed to find the Founders and try to forge a peace.

Odo starts getting weird.

The plot is revving way, way up.

If Cigarette Smoking Man from The X-Files were real, he would just be, like, inviting random Pro Publica reporters to his Signal groups by accident, then writing shit like, "THE ALIEN INVASION BEGINS TOMORROW. SICK, MY BROTHERS."

S.2, Ep. 26: The Jem'Hadar

Sisko and Jake and the camping trip of doom. (With Quark and Nog.)

Like the first season finale, this ep sets up the beginning of next season.

I do love how much Jake likes Nog and wants to help him out.

S.2, Ep. 25: Tribunal

O'Brien is put on trial by the Cardassians. Harrowing but somehow also funny? Mostly because of O'Brien's Cardassian version of a "lawyer"

S.2, Ep. 24: The Collaborator

It's Kira's turn to solve a mystery and figure out who gave info to Cardassians on a rebel base many years ago.

I may be the only one, but I liked Kira and Bareil together...though I knew they had a sell-by date.

S.2, Ep. 23: Crossover

1st mirror universe ep: I love the mirror universe episodes, the campier the better.

Intendant Kira ran so Emperor Georgiou could also run.

S.2, Ep. 23: The Wire

Garak has to detox under Bashir's care.

For some reason, homophobic execs decide these two need to be separated.

It's interesting that the episode before Star Trek: TNG's series finale features Ro Laren (and such a great, difficult, painful episode it is.)

Been rewatching DS9 and my main takeaway is that I would listen to Avery Brooks read car maintenance instructions for hours.

Also, if the Dominion invaded that planet where everyone is holographic, they coulda titled that episode "Jem'Hadar and the Holograms"

I tend to side-eye "wellness" proponents, but I went to a library program on it, and when someone mentioned working full-time, the wellness speaker just said, "Yeah, I don't really recommend that for...anybody." So true.

The proper response to finding a holodeck program where the people on your starship are fighting or taking part in a mutiny is absolutely to:

1) play it

2) tell all your friends so they can play it

all the while

3) half-heartedly trying to keep it a secret from the captain

S.2, Ep. 20: The Maquis, Part 1

On the heels of the TNG ep where some Federation peoples refuse to leave planets ceded to Cardassia, we start the story of the Maquis, a rebellion/terrorist group.

S.2, Ep. 19: Blood Oath

Jadzia finds herself bound to Curzon Dax's Klingon blood oath. She and three Klingons (from the original series) go on a quest for vengeance.

Hell yeah; great ep.
