Elon Musk, a pro-apartheid South African, may have come here believing the US was a bastion of English-Scots-Irish culture. (By the way, were the Irish welcomed by the English?)

My grandparents and so many others came here because of the promise of freedom, tolerance, equal rights, and opportunity.

Madonna releases “Borderline” 42 years ago today — her fifth and final single from her debut album and her first Top 10 hit.

The iconic video carved a path for other, narrative-driven videos on MTV. “I knew what I wanted to look like. .. I knew what I wanted to be about. I had very clear ideas.”

Know what keeps me awake at night? Awareness of how much damage has been done to the military and civil service since 2017.

The entire culture of public service inside agencies has been shattered, and fixing it is not simply a matter of hiring back some people and rewriting a few policies.

Medicare for All would save $450B a year.

Every dollar spent on food stamps generates $1.50-$1.80 in economic activity.

Each dollar going to low-wage workers adds $1.20 to the economy overall.

It’s not about what this country can or can’t afford.

It’s about priorities.
