“Fighting misinformation is not as simple as only correcting facts; it also involves addressing purposeful manipulation and the way algorithms direct people's attention.”

Good, but what about partisan information seeking?

To me it seems more like deeply engrained feudalism; either way, it is as frustrating.
Many of my mutuals are British & interested in human rights. Prob, the vast majority feel that cuts to ppl with disabilities allowances is wrong & feel like there is nothing they can do.

Govt attacked ppl with disabilities in Ireland. The result was they had to increase the allowance*.

Relevant to research on true crime and related fiction: We love the feeling of insight we get from finding or hearing the solution to whodunits, crossculturally!
"What goes on four feet in the morning, two feet at midday, and three feet in the evening?"

This riddle is thousands of years old, but why does it stick with us?

In our new paper, we argue that the feeling of insight might explain the lasting success of some cultural products: tinyurl.com/4j756h9a

Great talk at #ehbea2025 by @paulajasheppard.bsky.social on family size and child health: inconsistent findings across populations, which would be expected if we focus on asking 'under what conditions/context do we see X', rather than expecting one answer.

Today I lost an NIH grant training clinicians to do research about intimate partner violence with perinatal women.

More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications.

I didn't just lose a grant. We lost an entire cohort of people building careers to prevent that.

Nearly £10bn of this was profit.

I think it's time as a society that we face the implicit agreement we've made that if you don't financially contribute to the economy, you're not afforded the same human rights.

It's horrific, and shows that we largely live in economies, not societies.
Cutting disability benefits doesn't 'incentivise work'. But it does penalise and humiliate the disabled, and that's the real point.

As I sit home with a terrible cold, I can’t help but be pissed that we decided as a society that we’re just cool with getting sick.

We applied technology to water-borne and food-borne illness, and you generally don’t get sick that way anymore.

But airborne? Nah, let’s keep getting sick.

Unbelievable but true.

My son's nursery keeps refusing air purifiers, even after all staff got sick and a child ended up in hospital a couple of months ago.
5 years of pro infection Covid policies have made it easy for measles to make a comeback.

People have decided infection control is weakness. Masks are political. Clean air isn’t worth it. Kids need to get sick to get healthy.

We must change the narrative. Mask up. Stay home when sick. Resist.
